Wingfield ain't all that much of a miss. 247 has Zy Crisler rated ahead of him. Not saying Zy's better, but not all that much of a miss.

Not to just crap on a guy just because we lost him, but like... are we even sure he would've started?? Over Gesky, Henderson, others? Could've easily been like Wigenton last year IMO.

Would like to probably see a bit more competition and depth in that OL group though.

The difference is he started getting more carries. Faegin averaged 4.6 ypc it’s not like the line was trash at any point. The biggest difference is those guys got more carries which helps a back get into a grove.
You’ll have to point me in the direction of where I called the line “trash,” either in this thread or any other on here since I’ve been posting. But as I said in previous post, there was plenty of talk by other posters on here in early part of season about line not performing well. Maybe you never wrote such posts, but I’m confident you’ll find them. Guessing in and around the Kansas game thread would be a good place to start.

As to Feagin averaging 4.6, very true. But he averaged 6.8 against a undermanned EIU team followed by 2.5 ypc across the Kansas and CMU games. Then, as I pointed out in previous post, as line started to improve he averaged 5.3 yards per carry over his last two games of injury-shortened season.

I agree that more carries can help a RB. Doesn’t explain Feagin’s increase in production in last 2 games (25 carries) he played versus previous two (26) though. Also doesn’t explain why 3 of McCray’s top 4 YPC average games came in games when he had single digit carries, while only 1 (bowl game, 13 carries, 8.8 avg) was in the 5 games he had double digit carries.

If you don’t believe the line got better over course of the season, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. Maybe you believe the improvement in rushing game as season wore on was due to Feagin not being on the field. I don’t think that’s true. Likewise, maybe you’re one of those who has called for Feagin to move to LB when healthy.

I think the running game improvement is from the backs getting into a rhythm and also play calling. I never said you said the line was trash but many on here have.

People are not apoplectic because of your points. They are disappointed because of your final point.

Next step for the program is adding depth to areas of strength. Didn't work here. Future is bright.

Did you hear stud LT is returning? Along with the other 4 starters. We got some OLB. ILB is not a position of need.
I would tend to agree with the original post that suggests we do need linebacking help. And I do think it is more of a need than just simply a want. Our linebacking is not nearly physical enough IMO.

So, transfer portal window is 5 days from the end of the bowl game for our guys, right? So is that 5 business days meaning tomorrow is deadline or is it 5 days total to next business day meaning today is deadline? Or does it mean yesterday was deadline?

Grad transfers have unlimited time so is Gabe one of those…?

We also have a 48-hour processing window for the school to do paperwork so…?

Also does this mean Terrence Brooks actually has that dog in him in and is gonna stay to try and win a spot? Because if so that’s the kind of stuff that enamors you to a fan base.

I think if you had a few more questions in a single post, you would get quicker responses.

I’m not sure if everyone watches the same games.
That was proven on this board during the Citrus Bowl. 😂

Very few programs have depth in areas of strength in modern college football. Depth now plays at other schools creating the current parity in college football.

This thread has went to crazy town. We want to move our best RB when healthy to linebacker.

We want to move another to play fullback. Are we gonna run the wishbone? Does that position still exist in 2024.

What does exist in 2024 is the transfer portal and both players would enter if you asked them to switch positions.
Certain situations using a fullback is a great move. It’s making something of a comeback as most players haven’t seen that type of physical play their entire lives… mostly some spread type offense. Two tight ends and a fullback will wear down most teams and combined with the very good running backs, all with a different style, will be tough to stop. Then there’s Luke and the receivers. Potential to do whatever we want on offense. Balance. If illini are getting 5-7 yards a carry and defense has to put 7-8 in the box, easy pickings for Luke.

I’m just telling you how the staff views the current roster.
...and all we are collectively asking you to do is to take our very insightful thoughts that reflect how much more we know than BB and his staff and help educate them on what they need to add to the roster to help better our program. Please and thank you - glad I could help clarify expectations!

Yes, please do, because some of us even see it over 1,000 miles away. /s

I think people are generally misunderstanding what a ILB does in this scheme? Rosiek is back next year and Kreutz has been good.
Room is also crowded. We're only losing Meed so far, and for next year we could have Rosiek, Kreutz, Zardzin, Odeluga, Hood, Baker, incoming JUCO Kante and Beerman. I would think that we might actually lose 1-2 from that group
