How does that work with the RB Stewart? Does he need to be on a football scholarship? Or were those the old rules?

Who was the last football/wrestling athlete for the Illini?

Good question. Are there really even scholarships anymore? I suppose so but it's now roster limits, not scholarship or non-scholarship that matter. He'll count for the 105 football roster and imagine he would count on the wrestling roster? That's my best guess, scholarship or not.

he counts against the 105 football roster & the wrestling roster . UI can “pay” for his scholly internally however they want to .

He’s not paying the retail price for tuition and r&b, thats a given .

I wanted to take a quick peek at the 2026 class and see if we are seeing an upward trajectory on the talent quality compared to previous classes. December through late Feb/early March is usually unofficial visits and limited offers, which offers then explode starting April through June. So knowing the offer averages (which I'll release later, waiting on Purdue to fill out their class) are lower than later, it still would be promising to see increased offers from the 2026 commits compared to the early commits from '22, '23, '24, and '25. I'm also going to ignore QB recruits because that timeline is much earlier than every other position and will skew the results.

Early 2022 Commits
Joey Okla
Average FBS Offers: 0 Average P4 Offers: 0

Early 2023 Commits

None (Feagin and JoJo were late March)

Early 2024 Commits
Brandon Hansen
Average FBS Offers: 2 Average P4 Offers: 0

Early 2025 Commits

Griffin Rousseau & Michael McDonough (Boyd would qualify but not looking at QBs)
Average FBS Offers: 4 Average P4 Offers: 2

Early 2026 Commits

Kingston Shaw, Davon Grant, & Landen Von Seggern (Clayton would qualify but not looking at QBs)
Average FBS Offers: 6.67 Average P4 Offers: 3

Earlier commits are happening more frequently and we are seeing a higher quality recruit compared to past years.

To me, these are the true recruiting rankings. Thanks for the research.

And then compare back to Lovie. Did we have ANY commits this early during his time here?

Still think it is one soul at the cross roads, but it has been a minute since I got a quote.

I'm sorry, did you say the #1/2 recruit in....Nebraska?? The #1 or 2....football recruit? In the entire state of Nebraska? Is committed to the University of Illinois?
To play football? At Illinois? From Nebraska? To Illinois? Football? Nebraska? Illinois?
