Good news- Guyer HS is on my Mount Rushmore of HS football helmets along with Fisher. Southlake Carroll, and Massilon in Ohio. Already got kids from Fisher in the past, so we might have already or soon get one from each school hehe...

Bad news- hope he is better than Guyer 4 star QBs

I had already written Illini football off as not capable of competing in an expanded Big Ten in the NIL era. But then we go 10-3, win a bowl game, and now we're recruiting better than I've ever seen. Long way to go til signing day, but if Bret keeps this up, he's going to earn that extra t on his name.

I'm curious how a 4 star Ohio player like Cam Thomas never even gets an offer from Ohio State. I guess they're just that well off....

Because Ohio State is on such a different level that they rightfully believe that guys like Cam are type B or C guys on their board and they can get involved late and still sway those prospects if necessary.

(a) I'm not loving Guyer from the film out there

(b)....but I can see the high reward with a guy like this. If he can take out good tight ends and play the run game, it's a three-down backer who is an excellent scheme weapon. We will find out if he can add strength and keep that athleticism.

There's probably a 80% chance he's in Tulsa by 2028 and a 20% chance he's an all-B1G linebacker, with no in-between.

Kingston Shaw got his first 247 rating (86) and composite ranking (652).

Do you remember how the 2021 class had one of their biggest wins securing Aiden Laughery? Kingston Shaw has almost exactly the same ranking, slightly better offers as Laughery....but Shaw's the lowest ranked recruit in his current class.

Beerman got all this going.

Walters move to Purdue and subsequent dismissal ended up triggering the best streak of recruiting ever for Illinois.

And we got really good during his time away.

Who could have predicted such good fortune.
Walters really did help us out more than he ever could of had he stayed on staff...

Tanking a rival program...getting fired and raiding his recruits/players subsequently starting our recruiting heater.

Are we still paying him under the table? Worth every penny now that I think of it

Illinois football stock is 🟩 higher 👆

It feels as if I'm awakening from a multi-decades long nightmare/apathetic sleep state that includes lasagna, nepotism, white beards, and 63-0.

Build this man a statue.
Approximately 40 years for those keeping track at home. One year wonders don’t count. To be fair, we were respectable under Mackovic, but Mike White was the last coach I remember consistently bringing in recruits. Remember all the Cali boys he brought here?
