If this is true, it creates some ripples across the class projections.
I've always viewed Fors, Riordan, and Tony B. to be battling for the last remaining guard spot. If Tony B. is being recruited for defensive line, that simplifies it but....is the staff going to bring in 5 offensive line HS recruits? I still think they'll bring in another tackle prep. If they bring in both Riordan and Fors, that's three guys that are definitely guards. The staff is probably going to bring in two minimum, but likely 3-4 offensive line transfers next year. That would be a LOT of new bodies. Plus, the glut at guard was already high going into this year.
The ongoing recruitment at LBer is also interesting, and potentially connected. Is Bielema thinking this is going to be the moment for the program and he's going to bring in an old-school 28-man class? Would be an interesting test-case on whether a staff can keep that many guys in one class happy within the NIL era (I would have doubts) but these are the best recruiting "vibes" around the program in two decades. Would also mean there will be more roster culling next offseason than normal and would require Illinois to be really young going into the 2026 season (which also happens to have Duke and Mizzou on the schedule).
