Would love to see these 2 on field in double TE, 2 WR set. Boyd, Taylor, Petty, Clayton in pocket slinging it down field. Hey I'm old. I can dream.
The options Lunney will have here are endless. Multiple TE sets, with a solid OL. The holes the line will create will open up a lot of play action or open lanes for our backs. We will finally see all the tricks in Lunney’s bag this year. I hope Art picks up all the knowledge Lunney will teach him as Lunney could get hired as a HC next year.

That's a cycle I hope is broken....what's the point of qbs committing if they are never given consideration to start because the program is forever looking for something better in the portal
If I were a 4-star quarterback right now, I'd be heading to a level I could play at early, not a blue-blood, and take my NIL money after a year on the field at, say, Colorado State, rather than hit the portal after two years on the bench at Alabama.

It goes both ways. Look at Donovan Leary, for example, had he stayed, he likely would have been our starting QB next year, but left to compete for a starting job a year earlier. It's difficult to build starter-quality depth at QB if your top back up QBs transfer out for playing time.

I thought the same thing about being a good HS qb and going to a a MAC level school get a couple years under the belt playing and then hit the portal. We are going to be backed up with qb's next year probably with little or no playing time. I still thought Leary should have played some last year. It will be interesting to see how next year plays out. Someone like Boyd and Newton sitting for a couple years and not even sniff the field. I could see Boyd being a new Isaiah Williams. It will be interesting.

When was there a time to play Leary last year?

Never know when starting QB will go down or be ineligible - John Paddock had an unforgettable 4 games his SR season.

My son's HS starting SR QB just transferred to Mater Dei. Everybody thought the #2 QB same class was the one who would transfer. I am sure he is glad he waited.

I agree I would hope we could develop a HS kid so he could start sophomore or jr year instead of bringing in portal transfers. I don' t think we had the QB bench talent before to do this but I think we do now!

Good for Tennessee. Gotta put your foot down at some point.

Now we just gotta hope he doesn't end up at tO$U.

I understand the sentiment and it's an easy narrative: A QB that the program spent a bazillion dollars to come here, that ultimately had a disappointing conference season and the offense struggled, and now he's asking for more money?? After "we've" opened the Pandora's box of NIL to get him and paid him millions?!

The problem is, Tennessee is only putting their foot down about Nico, not the trend. They are deciding they would rather move on and they'll just re-create this exact problem for another program by taking their QB. They have two freshman QBs that won't be trusted to start from day 1. Always nervous to see how this shakes out because this could be the first of many QB dominos as Tennessee will be dangling a lot of money to take over a team with expectations.
