Also, the role of offensive coordinator is much more than just calling plays. Barry Lunney is excellent at his job. He has an eye for talent, he develops guys, and kids want to play for him. I think a MAC school is going to make him a head coach real soon, or maybe even a bigger school. Maybe there's a way to keep Art if that happens.

#22 is about to make a business decision.As someone who played against former Illini and NY Jets lineman JP Machado in high school, I distinctly understand the feeling #22 in white is experiencing in this photo when he recognizes that a player of Cameron Wagner's size and athletic ability has identified him as his next blocking target.
It is NOT a fun feeling.

Would be nice to have a QB come in and red shirt year 1 ---- then start for 4 consecutive years.
I like Trae Taylor a lot as a prospect but his lack of success last year is a big question. He’s a good kid but I’m not sure how much he’s liked by other kids in the area especially since he left Boom.

He & Josh will do whatever it takes to keep him here and keep him happy …
Also - Very few of Bret’s position coaches leave … And the ones that have … All have taken worse jobs, besides one and it was a lateral move … Speaking just for CFB … Obviously quite a few guys went to the NFL …
The proof is in the pudding … Bret will get you where you want to go … Art’s only 25 and is making $200k a year and continues to get more and more responsibilities on an ELITE CFB team with an ELITE HC … And he sees that … No reason to chase a few extra dollars and instability with people you don’t really know … Build it here with Bret …

Are you talking about Lunney taking a HC job at a MAC school? That's a huge downgrade from established P4 coordinator, especially one who has a few games as an interim HC under his belt.

In recent years, yes this has become the case for the most part. Lunney already makes more as a OC than all but 4 MAC head coaches, and he actually ranks in the bottom half of Big Ten OCs (I think 14th). There are plenty of offensive and defensive coordinators in the Big Ten that make more than the highest paid MAC head coach.

How realistic is it though to jump from coordinator to head coach of a power conference? Obviously we saw that with Ryan Walters, and the ultimate backlash on that was that he should’ve gotten head coaching experience at a smaller school first.
confidence meter very low with TE recruiting at the moment.
may even be a bad word around with losing both Sutter and Anderson.

It might also indicate he’s just not HC material. Experience at a smaller school would add to his football know-how and management skills. However, his character flaws, driven by his ego, remain his biggest long term limitation.
