Coaches aren’t supposed to take better players because they already have players at that position committed?

Also JC needs at least 2 years in a SC program before he contributes
THIS.

I saw 4-5 of their games this year.

JC has all the traits to become a big time TE, but needs a MAJOR upgrade in strength to be a contributor at the P5 level.

He got away with a lot of things in high school due to his height and athleticism.

(Would have LOVED to see him develop at ILL!)

he’s going to be recruited over at LSU

I hate to say it , but 14 months from now , he’ll be sitting in the TE room , looking around , and will see 7 other guys bigger , stronger & faster than himself and will get tired of being on the scout team .

I'll pass because he doesn't.

Not sure what happened but the stats aren't bad. When I've watched (Both Oklahoma and Auburn) he's had some decent games, but I don't know the story. It could just be a situation where the Illini coaching staff can bring out the 5 star.

Again, I'm good with the QB room now and I think Boyd could be the guy anyway. Just thinking from the mindset of others who say they will bring in a transfer guy for sure.

South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers may enter the portal. Entered the 2025 season as one of the nation's top QB's, then he and the Gamecocks had a down year. Threw for 260 yards and a TD against us in the 2024 Citrus Bowl.

If he does I hope we're not interested. I never saw the Sellers hype. Supremely athletic but I just don't know if he's what Bret would want. Needs to go to a Notre Dame or GT where running the QB is a decent part of their offense. They twisted themselves in knots trying to convince us all he was a lock for the NFL.

He’s a guy that gets a gm fired. Hes big, strong and fast so you want to take a chance on him.

Colton Joseph/Old Dominion looks like a QB made for Coach Lunny's offense. A little bigger than Luke, had a big run against Indiana. A knock on him is he can be a gunslinger, which may not be bad if you cut the interceptions. Looks to be able to make all the throws.

Seems like a good Illinifamily pick who is proven and solid. Fits the mold of a Tommy Devito/Luke Altmyer recruit.
And he's certainly going to transfer given the $$$$ available out there. Just 6'1.

I just asked if Luke was playing. I'd imagine he is, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if he decides not to while getting ready for the league. I think it could be a big springboard into the Boyd era. I liken him to D.Williams from Washington. It's been a while since they've had a guy who can throw AND is athletic enough to run for 150+ on you.

I think they offered Johnson-Cook two high schools ago.
He was talking about Jake Thies. Y’all need to watch his highlights from Fenwick’s state championship victory over East St Louis.

He had 100 yards rushing with two TD’s, 3 catches for 61 yards. 19 tackles and a game sealing INT in their upset of the vaunted Flyers though our Decatur kid Myson had like 180 yards rushing.

Jake Thies looked possibly like the most athletic, fastest guy on the field outside of Myson.

Some of the best single game tape I’ve seen. Kid is a heat seeking missile.

This kid needs to be offered like yesterday. Wow.

I have a serious question. I admittedly am not big following fb recruiting, but it seems to me that our running backs are under developed in comparison to those of Indiana and OSU. IU's backs were massive in size and muscle. I have not been happy with our run game since Chase left. Our backs seem slow and tentative hitting the hole. Is just me or do we really need some upgrades? I like Valentine but like Loveacouple of years ago he seems to go down as soon as he is hit. Feagan should have been a TE or linebacker not a RB at a P5 school, he has some speed but takes way to much time to get going. Maybe it is the scheme or fact that our OL was only serviceable at run blocking. Any thoughts or am I nuts

Generational talent in state. Possibly the #1 player in the country. Need a Mendenhall type of RB, and it's a glove like fit here. This is my litmus test on whether they are ready to jump into the national title ranks. Instant starter day 1 with a chance to be first team All B1G/AA his true freshman year with how everything is set up.

Sometimes backs are tenative when there is not a hole to hit
