Boyd is a year away. He has all the tools(- height). It just takes time to develop QB's. There are very few Freshman you just throw out there. Look at Underwood at Michigan this year.

Another way to look at it, how many guys do you see as 3 year starters at a P4 school? Luke was definitely an exception in that and he had actually played at least some meaningful snaps over 2 years before stepping in. Even then his first year was pretty uneven.

Boyd would he a RS-Freshman with no game experience at all. The staff could get a transfer with two years of eligibility to start and Boyd could still be the man for two years on his own afterwards.

I have no idea what he was told a year ago, but I doubt it was " come here for 2 years and when Luke leaves, its your job to lose"
its very likely his role so far is exactly what he thought it wouild be. "hold a clip board and wear a cap on the sidelines unless our starter gets hurt, if ever"

if the bowl game is out of reach in either direction, I hope he gets some snaps in the bowl game . I've heard he's a real good guy
"and you get a degree from UI rather than from NIU"...if that still matters anymore...

I dont have any real insider info ( im friends with a couple former players with no ties to the current staff) but they seem to think there is smoke to the Raiola family in the orange and blue. We do need a new OL coach and and portal QB, but would this be an upgrade?

Nebraska had a terrible OL, but were improving in the run game and Dylan was mostly running for his life when healthy.

My opinion is the steep price would not be worth the gamble for what might not be an upgrade and not worth the circus it would bring.

Does anyone think bringing in the Raiola duo would be a good move?

His durability is a concern...back to back season ending injuries.

he supposedly comes with a high price tag

I never saw a reason to justify it .

I wouldn't mind that move at all. That's another big time QB and he'll probably only be here one year. Lot of hype. Lots of weapons. Big, physical OL and a defense that has added some next level talent and athleticism.

That could be a really big deal IMO. I was actually going to pose the question, but waited it out. I'd do it for sure. And another thing theyll bring is more attention from top recruits/players seeing as though he was a 5 star, #1 QB.

If we're getting a transfer, what's the point of recruiting high school QBs? Better question, why would a high school QB commit to anywhere they don't have a direct path to the field?

If my son was the #60 QB in his class, I'd tell him, do not go to the big school unless you're willing to change positions. Instead, go to an NIU or Tulane where you have a better chance to see the field, then if you have success, you just transfer to the big school.

Football is so strange that the rosters are so big. So many guys are 4 year scholarship athletes that never see the field.
I know you're using #60 as an example, but how is this any different than before?

The 40th to 60th ranked QBs 2015-2020 were generally not starters at their first p4 program (2018 being a weird exception).

I know this may seem like a crazy question but if I am Boyd or a new recruit and want to play ASAP why do we not work out a deal with a lesser school like EIU or Western and let them play there for 1-2 years and get some first hand education of the quicker game at the college level. We get to monitor their progress, if they have the skills then they can then transfer here. Seems like a win win albeit the system at these schools could be a bit different.

Big Jack : I think thats a no go because they could learn and ingrain some bad football habits that are hard to stop and also they might come to think too highly of themselves and be quite an attitude problem to deal with when you actually have them on your team .

Jack I can understand your point about the qb position. The only problem is what if the first string got hurt. Then second string gets hurt. Just one play away from playing.
Think about Northwestern against us. Down to their 4th string rback. Just think if we had gotten to Trey Petty or J Newton. Thankful we didn't.
