Those highlights are against two of the most talented teams in Illinois. That kid can play. I’d offer just off of that tape. Don’t know why his offer list is so modest.
He’s not the biggest kid. His brother is a hell of a player and never got big offers. I think you could put Jake in the Hank Beaty role and he would be great.

He's a very solid player but not sure Illinois is the best fit for him. Illinois has a fairly crowded WR room and the starting QB is unknown.
Just thought it was notable seeing CHawk leading the Illini Twitter on to a portal transfer.
Seems like being at KSU and seeing the 'grass ain't always greener' steered him right back to the lush pastures of Central Illinois.
but 7 figures is a lot of green....

Good. He deserves an opportunity to play elsewhere. Didn't seem like he was in the plans for Illinois.

Right...but things were less than glamorous in Manhattan.
Missed the tourney...Some fans blamed the high priced transfer. Wasn't the NCAA tourney and compete for the B1G titles caliber team that he was accustomed to.
I think the perspective of going somewhere else and realizing...fanbases are critical there too...
Alot of people forget... there was also discontent about his usage (specifically Defensively) being put on an island --all 6'7 and a half inch Coleman Hawkins--vs the best centers in the league with NO doubles (analytics) and let the big man go off...at Coleman's expense.
Not here to argue if that was the right or wrong choice but I think the optic of him getting 20- 30+ dropped on him frequently probably upset a guy who had league aspirations.
To act like there was no ill feelings from CHawk or the Illinois fanbase just isn't realistic to me. Though the way everything transpired certainly helped expedite the healing from both, all I'm saying.
Happy he got the bag, and I'm happy he's back to being that same troll ambassador that we knew and loved.

Think this shows how much better our pitch has become. He was top 100 in Florida...
We are bringing in top 100 (nationally) Hankins now.
Attrition is gonna happen. Very few guys we can't recruit over or replace this year (my .02).

This is why people shouldn't get too excited about High School recruiting anymore. In a year or two, they will be gone.
still adjusting to this new reality of having the means and opportunity yo imrpove out talent pool year in and out.....heady times
