At this point, I wonder if it might have been easier to get a new defensive staff that can make adjustments to work with who we have.

We've seen some bright spots on defense in certain games and stretches when the playcalling was more aggressive and we didn't take an hour trying to substitute.
I’m pretty sure we will be fine. No slight meant on the players but I forgot 2-3 guys that are transferring off the defense were on the team.

This is getting pretty bad… you can’t convince me that returning basically no players on the defense is a good thing. No matter how bad the defense was last season.
Funny how they all played so much better at the end of the year. Its almost like they were auditioning for the transfer portal. 🤔

We're done with lasagna. Brett has bacon crusted prime rib over a bourbon reduction sauce with butter, herbs, and garlic.

I’m not exactly sure we want a bunch of freshman to have to play in the big ten… thought we learned that wasn’t a good strategy lol

I can live with that at DB. Talent and speed is everything. In the case of Hankins and Eberhart, they project (IMO) to be physically ready. They're probably ready right now and that's before being here this month and going through the S&C. Think both will be a really big deal.

With Bailey coming back, Eberhart IMO will play a similar role to the one Bailey played when Sydney Brown was here. I think that position is going through the roof.

Hankins to me is going to create a lot of buzz. Think he's probably the most ready Illini DB recruit they've had since Vontae (RIP). Arguably the most talented (Coming in IMO), and by the end of their career I think he can make that Mt. Rushmore:

1) Witherspoon
2) Davis
3) Hawthorne (Who is still underrated but could've probably been even better at FS)

Think Hankins will be in that group.

Also see these recent moves from today...I-L-L !!!

What? No, you don't keep players that don't belong playing at this level and expect that a new staff can come in and make something of it. One of the only benefits to the portal is that you can make up for the sins of poor recruiting, at certain positions, and get another bite of the apple the following year by finding yourself a fix.

You may be able to scheme your way through NW, Rutgers, Purdue, etc. and we did. However, there is no scheme in the planet that will fix size, speed, explosiveness and overall athleticism issues.

The Bears are currently having the exact same issues as Illinois did defensively. There is nothing they can do when the defensive line can't get pressure and the corners can't stay with a WR1 or WR2. You can go zone, you can go man, you can blitz.....and it might work a handful of times. It doesn't work for 60 minutes.

In no world should Torrie Cox Jr or Tanner Heckyl be Big Ten CBs. That's who we trot out there. The issue is clear as day and it's being addressed by the staff.
