I wish we can make it rain and bring in all the top recruits. Where we are as a program it’s hard to have that kind of money sitting on the sidelines. It hurts in the long run because going on the open market to find linemen isn’t cheap. It looks like we got a diamond in the rough with Knapik but you can’t consistently do that.

Some of these guys may end up being pretty good coaches.
No one knew about Bryant Haines or Mike shanahan three years ago.
They get by doing more with less.

Well I don't believe Illinois has ever led in this recruitment so.
Don't doubt it. It just seems like there is never any loyalty to the state school in football recruiting. BB has bent over backwards to recruit the state hard and give border line guys a chance. Rarely gets paid back by having blue chippers stay home. Frustrating, but I also understand it to some degree for many different reasons. But also hints specifically at the lack of confidence in linemen recruits' minds of chances to develop. (I know there are specific examples of linemen who have developed, just speaking generally.)

He’s a 4 star Tackle and his parents are former IU athletes. It’s not like a recruit like this should be a lock.

Not good for Illinois. If it's going to be the Illini, why not announce in the SJO gym and hear all of the applause from students and other Illini fans? With the Pat McAfee Show announcement, I'm guessing it's Notre Dame. Or maybe Oregon.
My guess is this will turn out just fine for Illinois. And he's not picking Illinois.

It seems like they have a fair shot looking over the whole recruitment but who knows? I know it would be a big addition to an OL that was completely rejuvenated with this past class. Have to keep it going and keep adding in the trenches.
