Wasn't he predicted to go somewhere else? Maybe i'm wrong about that, but i don't remember much buzz surrounding him going to Illinois.

This looks like a really good commitment...he had some big time offers within the B1G and SEC.
Just what they need. Very good in-state get and needed momentum as they hit the summer run before the season. Another 9, 10+ win season and let the chips fall where they may.
This makes a lot of sense also with 5 in 5 looming also. More older players to pay to retain.

I think fans are confusing spending on prep recruiting class and the roster as a whole. We spent a lot more than we have on the prep class last year but as always we will spend more on retention then we will on prep recruits.
If it required leadership from the NCAA or voluntary reporting from athletic programs to increase transparency then I would agree but outside lawsuits will be the driving factor.

Rice is another kid it would be nice to lock up. The 27 class is loaded in a normal these kids would be ranked much higher in state
We have a very good chance with all these kids. It sucks we are going to strike out in the top 10 but we can still have a very strong in state class
Will be interesting to track and see what happens with the top 30 of the class. As always, for a variety of reasons, a chunk are not very productive in college.
I would not be surprised to see 1-2 make their way into the portal after the 2028 season and end up being good players for the Illini from 2029-2031.

Just think....smaller schools have players making more $$$ than their coaches? It's an upside down world.
