Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

Illinois is going to the portal for a QB regardless. Zero percent chance they go into the season with 4 QB's who have taken only a few college snaps.
Have any other programs started a guy w/o significant college snaps? Would it be so unprecedented?

Of course, lots of teams every year.

But that's not what's brought success to Illinois and Bielema. Altmyer didn't have a lot of experience his first year and that's didn't as well as planned. They also had John Paddock a very experience QB.

That's different than:

Carson Boyd
Michael Clayton
Dane Eisenmenger
Sladen Shack

I don't see any way they don't pick up an experienced portal QB. How much they're willing to spend and/or do they expect that QB to start? We shall see.

Why waste time and money recruiting high school quarterbacks at all then ?

Exactly. Seems like a waste of time, money, and eventually recruiting credibility.

But then where will we find experienced QB’s if they don’t get to play somewhere? Why not here?

It seems that Bret is satisfied with the transfer QB plan instead of a home grown choice.

You'd have to ask the coaches. My guess is portal QBs are much more proven and less risk.

It's hard to change what's worked.
would be interesting to peel back the economics around this a bit. is it cheaper to field qb1 &2 as transfers each yr vs recruiting hs? we've signed some good qb recruits in recent yes, cant be cheap
