Illinois Football Staff Thread

Not sure why anybody would complain about Butkus...smart enough to have made Beckman for the clown he was and walked away from the coming poop storm...everybody loves Hiestand and he thinks the world of Luke so lets see how he does absent the micro management of the Lasagna King

Guess on recruiting regions by assistant (assuming all of them will recruit IL as well):

OC/QB McGee -
RB Spencer - OH, FL, IL
WR Hayes-Stoker - TX, FL, IL
OL Butkus - IL
TE -

DC Nickerson - CA, FL, IL
DL Phair -
LB -
DB -

OC/QB: McGee
OL: Butkus
WR: Hayes-Stoker
RB: Spencer

DC: Nickerson
DL: Phair

3 more. An LB and DB coach certainly. Maybe DB is Mikail Smith. And then someone in a recruiting-focused role maybe?

From what I'm reading, sounds like DB is definitely gonna be M. Smith.

Really gonna be interested to see who they tab for Recruiting Coordinator.

We're already very spoiled and he seems underwhelming in comparison to the other staff we've landed. I don't doubt he'll do well though.

Spencer definitely a home run hire. A top notch recruiter.

Spencer - Really impressive to get him back into the college ranks.
Nickerson - high character guy who I would equate to a 5-star prospect. Has all the tools to be a great coach and just needs a few more years. His previous stints have showed what he's all about and now he has the opportunity to show it.

True, but he has the Illinois name to work with. Plus he worked for Lovie in Chicago. Last three years as assistant line coach for the Jaguars. They don't give those jobs away, especially for multiple years. Lovie absolutely has to know what he is getting.

Hopefully by surrounding him with the others on this staff and having matured from his last stint here I'm hoping for the best. No way Smith would hire someone for so critical a position if he didn't feel he could do the job.

I think Bellamy staying around as Director of Player Personnel for this year would make a lot of sense for everyone. He's going to have a hard time finding another job anyway, and he could act as a bridge based on his relationships with recruits, current players and former players.

Will this be our first glitch? Hope not, but if it doesn't work out we are going to be fine. I just know it! ;)

at the time he was following Whitman, Illini Athletics, Illini Football & Aj Epenesa. love it

Living in hawkeye land I cannot tell you how awesome it would be to steal AJ from them! A little CJ Fiedorowicz revenge!!!

Edit: Making Illinois the only FBS school with an african american HC, OC, and DC.

I'm sure now all of our Chicago issues will be solved and the top rated football and basketball recruits will start pouring in.

I imagine Nickerson will coach LBs, leaving openings for RB (hopefully Spencer), TE, DB, ST. One of those last three coaches will probably serve as recruiting coordinator.

Let's assume:
OC: ~1mil
OL: ~200K
WR: ~200K
RB: (???)
TE: (TBA)

DC/LB: ~700K
DL: ~400K
DB: (???)

ST: (???)

Those are guesses, but somewhat informed.

I don't see where anyone was claiming this would be the case. Just an interesting fact.
