It looks like the Recruiting Coordinator, aka the Assistant Coach-Player Personnel, position posting closes today so I suspect we will hear something about that pretty soon if Lovie has already lined his guy up. If he has it has been pretty quiet at least on here.

On another front, Boese looks like a great hire and that is a very quiet and very important piece of the puzzle. Lovie is putting it all together.

With our staff, I feel like we are going to be a very competitive team, even this coming season. A very hard playing, fundamentally sound team. A team that doesn't beat itself. I think our mistakes will be at a minimum. I think if we lose it will just be because the other team will just have far superior talent.

I definitely expect our guys to be better conditioned and mentally tougher. I also expect our plus/minus for takeaways to dramatically improve.

Not sure what the connection to our staff is.

Also, "Director of Player Personnel" could mean like a million different things.

The job description includes recruiting coordinator duties. Just a different title.

Nice article on Butkus by Tupper.

The 2012 team was 2-10 and truth be told, Butkus was not a hit in his role. His coaching approach flopped and those who played for him complained about a style that relied too heavily on screaming and shouting.

............

The last three years have been spent as assistant offensive line coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where Butkus obviously paid attention and formulated a new approach.

............

He seems like a different person than the barking guy who coached here in 2012. He is teaching, demonstrating, encouraging and as he tries to mesh the pieces that will form Lovie Smith’s first offensive line, he talks like a man who has learned from past mistakes and past coaching associations.

Thanks dsg. It is good to hear that Butkus has matured. He has the makings of a very good offensive line coach.
