Worth noting that the white helmets are being used as the practice helmets. It always used to be the orange in the past.

I really hope so, I hate black for black's sake uniforms and I never want to see the Illini in them.

Looks like Buccaneer gray. Maybe Lovie high-tailed it out of Tampa with a shipment of old Buc helmets.
I sure hope it's the lighting playing tricks with the blue helmets though. We already have plenty of helmet color combos as it is.

We've got more than enough options as it is already, I'd be fine with trimming the fat a little bit even. Get one main home look, one main road one, then an alternate for each to wear once a year or so. I know it probably won't happen because if you're not a typical power you need to wear something different every game. I swear if it was legal to switch at halftime some teams would.

That's definitely the navy helmet from last year.
I am almost positive that Vaughn is referring to the throwback jerseys that some people noticed in the uniform reveal video a couple years ago. They have a mannequin wearing it in the hallway of the football complex and they have yet to wear it in game.

you mean besides when they wore it in 2008?
The throwbacks they wore in 2008 against EIU were real nice --- and if they brought those back every few years it'd be cool --- another throwback UNI I'd love to see would be the ones worn during the '83 Rose Bowl season. That was a special time to be an Illini fan .
when cubit was coaching a recruit from texas came through and he had a white helmet on but instead the facemask was all white instead of the blue....i think they do give recruits glimpses of helmet and uni variations ...cause in the illinois color pallete theres 3 types of grays....it could be a dark matte gray
I sure hope that's a matte orange as well. Although for now, I'm still in the white helmet corner.

Hasn't the orange helmet had a matte finish the past two years (ever since the rebranding)?
It's definitely been a metallic shiny orange that doesn't really match.
No that's the same orange helmet we've had. it just looks different in different lighting.

The color of our orange helmet is dependent upon the background, contrasting colors, and the lighting. In other words it will almost never match the orange on the rest of the uniform. this is why I do not like the matte orange, or matte blue, helmets. The orange helmet can appear to be anything between faded orange and red. And the blue helmet can appear to be anything between a medium blue and black.
