Hate them. The helmet stripe thickness has changed as has the ratio for the inner-to-outer stripes. The last ones had white letters with blue outlines which matched the helmet stripe (white stripe blue outlines). This inverts it, for seemingly no reason.

I am just not a fan. Sorry.

You should apologize. /s To each their own, but I think this is an absolute home run alternate color scheme. But, what do I know? I've become that get-off-my-lawn-guy in, what seems like, the snap of the fingers... :cautious:

The helmet stripes matching the shoulder stripes is perfect.

A little bit of history repeating. Feast your eyes on the 1982 classic in Camp Randall featuring #BPOTR. That’s terrific Bass. iykyk

Illini @ Wisconsin 1982 football

If you’re young and unfamiliar with this game the full no-huddle version is here

).

I was at that game.

Red-packed stadium. Crazy-loud crowd. The Wisconsin fans were all quite polite though - just having a good time.

What the highlights don't show is the time out Wisconsin called just before Mike Bass's kick. During the time out, both teams ran off to their sides of the field. The kicker was left alone out in the middle of the field - a bit surreal of a scene.

It was an awesome game-winning kick and Illini victory.

No more crazy-loud crowd after the kick. Just the 3 of us Illini fans in the south end zone jumping and cheering - surrounded by Wisconsin fans sitting is stunned silence.

A sweet, sweet Illini experience.

crazy how the shorter uprights make the field goal target seem wider

Remember it well. Our crew from Rockford was there, too, but we were sitting in the bottom left corner of the end zone. It was awesome!

If I’m remembering correctly, the NCAA goal posts used to be wider (like the width in high school). I think it was the late 1990s when the NCAA adopted the width of NFL goalposts.

These are going to look so weird, which will be a testament to Bielema's success in solidifying our "orange helmet" brand. We should never wear the blue helmets again, but this is pitch-perfect....a bowl game against another orange team? Go off, equipment staff!

(Also, note that when an opportunity to design a new option, we went with Script Illinois....the obvious best choice to be on a football helmet)

I think wearing the navy helmet against Northwestern would work for me, especially when played in Chicago.

From the equipment manager video that showed the process, these are helmets that have been worn before (makes me think the standard orange helmets) which have all been painted blue.

It was a quick turnaround to get it done specifically for the bowl game and opponent.

So I am assuming they will be returned to their normal orange color on a standard timeline during the winter and we will rarely see them again.
