Illinois Football Uniforms
* The arched helmet is the only clear winner. Then orange script, blue script…slant…
I dislike the slant most. But the script just doesn’t work on a football helmet or in an end zone very well IMO. Although, it sure looks great on a basketball uni.
It’ll never happen but this logo with a white and navy strip down the middle. That is one versatile sharp logo…that we don’t make enough use out of IMO.

The real question is where does the Block I helmet fit in the list? Definitely in front of Blue script Illinois. It's on the same #3 tier for me with the orange script Illinois.

My first in-person football game ever was Tony Eason's first game so I am biased to the arch. Too many years later my educated opinion is that the arched ILLINI is still a unique logo in college athletics. The Chief was the pinnacle of original, unique and dignified sports logo, but it will take time to bring that back. The script is good as well, but I don't think it works on a football helmet. The arched ILLINI over the helmet earhole or following the curve of the head works perfectly and translates well to hats, jackets and other gear. The slant ILLINOIS works, but it is a vanilla NY Giants rip-off; not unique and imo indicates a bush-league mentality to branding.

Got an unfairly bad rap because of its close association with Guenther and some very bad years. The stylistic complaints about it (“wahhh, they copied the Giants”) were always silly. Honestly the format works even better for the word “Illinois” than it does for “Giants”
I do not like the shield. It’s just eh. I know a lot of schools use letters but the block I is strong, forceful and stable, in the shield it’s reduced to s secondary element,
