Illinois Golf 2022-23
Well...Nick had triple bogey on his last hole so he's heading home. Sure he's extremely disappointed.
Illinois tees it up today at the Southern Highlands Invite which is a premier tournament year in and year out. Our toughest test to date outside of possibly the Illini Invitational at Olympia. Gonna be a fun to follow.

Jackson is so hot and cold. 2 eagles and a quadruple bogey. This course has some insanely tough holes that are killing teams. Both 10 and 17 have like 10 birdies combined across all teams and this is a stacked field. Even the par 5s have traps. 9 can be tricky. Adrien has been a little rough so far but Tommy has been so steady and good and Matthis is having a great round. We'd be close to first if we cut down on the double/triple bogey blow ups that normally Illinois doesn't have. Really up and down course but overall good showing so far. top 3-4 is great in this field with Adrien struggling a bit. Need to finish strong today. The girls are playing great too especially Isabel who's on fire. Crystal with a slow start.
And now a brutal double on 16 which isn't a tough hole. The team is coming up to 17 and needs to be relatively unscathed here if they want a chance at the win tomorrow.
Jackson is having the biggest rollercoaster of a round ever. What a birdie on 17. Seems to be able to bounce back from rough holes quite easily. Adrien has played a great back 9 Tommy too. We're finishing very good. Won't be surprised if Pepperdine/Texas/UNC come back to us a little as they progress through the tough back 9. One thing I've noticed this weekend. Mathis has struggled a lot on par 3s but has been dominant on Par 4s/5s.
great round yesterday for the boys 4th lowest round of the tourney. Gonna need another performance today. We really need 4 rounds under. The key in team golf is having two go low with the rest just above average for the field. AdC might not be having a great week and has been fine but got shave some strokes off. Still a chance.
If ADDC can carry that back 9 into today we will be looking good. Also the Girls are killing it and they subbed in Anna Ritter a true freshman for Halama and she had a great 2nd round. Isabel is going for the program record for a tourney today and the individual win.
Women are really struggling today. They always have one bad round that really kills them. Still going to shoot ahead of many teams ranked higher then them. Isabel has dropped from 1st-5th.

Illinois is on fire to start. Florida is also doing good and Oklahoma is torching the course. Well one dude is. 7 birdies to start but he like most golfers here have struggled on the back 9 in the past. The teams who win put up insane front 9 margins and hold through the back 9 and Illinois is doing that. If we have a back 9 like we did yesterday maybe minus the quad bogey by Jackson. We've moved to 2nd with Texas and Pepperdine just playing ok. Only 4 back of UNC! and 3-4 ahead of Oklahoma/Texas.
Illinois best benefit is they have 2 guys Hunt and Besard at -2 and so our drop score is high. We can afford someone to struggle and still not drop score as of right now.
ADDC is playing a lot better has been really good since hole 8 yesterday minus the double bogey on 9 which he has birdied twice the other 2 times. He probably wants that double back.
9 must have water and deep rough or something because there's so many birdies and eagles on it but also bogies and doubles. Weird hole.
Holes 8-9-10-11-12 can be brutal not many opportunities minus 9. Illinois had no birdies on 10 and so far none on 11. Need to just weather this and finish strong.
