Illinois Golf 2022-23
If we close like we did yesterday I think we win. Would be a monumental victory if so.
Small has said a few times this is the year. ADDC closing like he is today. We have a lot of experience and 2 young guys who can put in star performances at times. It must be this year for a championship. Or he'll have to probably wait a few years to have another great shot.
I was too busy to follow along today, I know there is a ways to go but what a performance so far!
Not much left. Piercen is done, ADDC and Jackson have 1 hole. Kuhl and Matthis have 4. Some other teams around them have 4-8 holes left though.
Nest year's team will look a lot different. Wonder if we hit the portal for immediate help.
I bet he will. Ryan could be ready but outside of Ryan Jackson and Piercen and maybe some freshman idk.
That bogey on 18 for ADDC is brutal. So close to a perfect round and you lose it on a somewhat tough par 5 but one that you can birdie and he couldn't afford to bogey.
All up to Tommy so far we are playing 17 great but 15/16/18 much worse then yesterday.
Damn 16 played tough today. Tommy and ADDCs bogeys there must be so frustrating for them. But hey we got a shot. Wow 18 played so hard today. Florida got killed by it including their best player and individual leader. GT with an insane final round to tie them.
I was scared with Mouw still going but he only has one hole left. I think we got this. What an insane comeback. Illinois was in 5th at -3 after day 1. 2nd was at -10 and 1st -17. Even after day 2 Illinois was -10 in 4th and 2nd was -16 and 1st was -20.
Fun fact Illinois had a birdie on every hole but 10 where they had 0. 10 was a brutal hole and looking around the only teams with birdies on it were Texas 2 on day 1, Oklahoma 1 on day 1, GT 1 on day 1, FL 2 on day 2, A and M 1 on day 1 and 2, GA 1 on day 2, UCF 1 on day 1, NM 2 on day 1, SMU 1 on day 2 and 1 on day 3 (congrats man only 1). Adrien and Matthis were even on it and Tommy was +1. Jackson bogies it every time poor guy. Illinois was +6 on it some teams were like +10-15 over the 3 days. Tough hole.
This Illinois team hits the ball a ton and I've noticed before Matthis and Jackson really struggle at Par 3s, Piercen too kinda. https://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=stats&tid=26661 This is insane. We are the best team in the tournament at birdies and eagles and par 4s/5s by a good margin. But the 2nd worst team at Par3s by a good margin. ADDC and Tommy experience shows in how much better at par 3s they are then the other 3 guys.
Barring the scores being wrong or someone on the team making 2-3 birdies and a eagle thats a win. Wow insane performance. I hope if anyone can come out to Atkins stone creek and watch the boys play at their new home course that they hope can eventually host a regional. Late April is the tournament.
As soon as Illinois went in with the lead I knew we were good barring one of the hot guys on the other teams going insane. 15-18 are brutal holes today and I think the weather conditions are a little worse now then when we started play.
Great last couple days and huge win for the program.
That's a version of choking that I can live with today.
Course must have made some other teams choke worse than the Illini. Great win and could be a historic season to come.
