This team is a little strange. Tommy and ADDC needed to be much better today and we would've won it was right there but that's ok we still played great. So we were the 2nd best team at par 4s with only ASU 4 strokes better. If anyone remembers last tournament we played, we were the best team by far at par 4s in a stacked field so similar to this one. Difference is we were terrible on par 3s last tournament like 2nd worst team mostly piercen, Jackson, and Matthis. (especially the last 2). But amazing at par 5s. This tournament we were 3rd last at par 5s which killed us but best at par 3s. Mostly cause ADDC and Tommy were solid on them like last tournament, piercen still struggled, but Jackson and Matthis were amazing when last tournament they were really bad. Interesting comparison.

That’s how golf is. A pretty big disparity between a good day and bad day. Buchanan’s play this year has been a big lift. It all comes down to putting it together at the right time but this group has shown they can do it. Will be fun to watch how they do.

Disappointing week for Illini sports, basketball and gymnastics. Oh, well.

Illini golf, fine outing at NIT. Disappointed they didn't win it.

But I remind myself that 2017 team with Dylan and Nick didn't win every tournament that year but made NCAA semifinals at Rich Harvest Farms. I was there as a vo!unteer and got to shuttle Illini and other players to 10th tee. What a thrill! Chatted with Dylan and Nick. Got free volunteer golf shirts and cap and free lunches!

Bottom line: I think this year's team is an NCAA national title contender. Only wish tournament were at RHF again.

Nobody wins every tournament they are in, just doesn't happen 5 man team golf has just too many moving parts for that. This was another very good showing and we were right there until the very end. We weren't the team to get chewed up on the final 2 holes but there was something like a 10 shot swing over the tourney between us and Arizona. This team has proven they can play with absolutely anybody(Vandy is scary but I would like to point out they have a 5th on their schedule right also) and the goal is to make it to match and then it is just how you stack up on that day.

Last look on Golfstat, Vanderbilt was 11 shots behind leader Alabama at Linger Longer in second round. Good field. Plenty of golf left. Anything can happen, as we know.

Thanks to Golfstat. I know now there's a Schenkel Invitational in Georgia named after the late, great sportscaster Chris Schenkel.

Here’s some 2024 recruits. Top 3 are men’s recruit and bottom one is an addition to women’s.

Piercen not playing. Could be anything. Grades, team rule, getting Ryan experience, transfer portal, or just motivation for underperformance as a whole. I’m sure we will never know.

Who knows? Injury?

Illinois website shows Piercen with spring stroke average of 71.6 over nine rounds; Ryan with 73.3, six rounds, including rounds played as an individual.

I saw Piercen play and win big at Western Junior Amateur fews years ago at Rich Harvest. I didn't know who he was, but he was wearing an Illini cap. Met him at another tournament. Nice young man.

Go Piercen, go Ryan, go Illini.

Waiting for action to resume at Hoskins, so ... Rain delay filler:

Chatted with Piercen at Palmer Cup 2021 at RHF where he was following ADC. He told me ADC would return to Illini.

ADC is ranked #7 on International candidates list as of 3/30 for 2023 Palmer Cup at Laurel Valley; Mathis, #22, according to arnoldpalmercup.com

Tommy ranked #5 on U.S. list.

Top six on final rankings list make the team; then six committee picks.

Watched Detry and Rahm play for Internationals at 2015 Palmer Cup at RHF. I thought, just who the heck is this John Rahm guy anyway?

ADDC is on an absolute roll. Team has to get through 1-4 which can be tough hopefully he keeps it up. This is the best he’s looked in a while.
