Illinois Golf 2023-24

If I'm interpreting the board correctly, they played 2 rounds yesterday. And Coach Small had two golfers play once as an individual and once for the team.
Vools indiv 76
Vools team 69
Buchanan indiv 78
Buchanan team 69
That's some pretty incredible timing by the coach. Maybe these guys are future Ryder Cuppers. They certainly come together for team!
I don't think Voois or Buchanan played as individuals. Voois had the worst score in the first round and Buchanan had the worst score in the second round. Therefore their scores didn't count for that particular round.

No Timmy Crawford played individual both times. We would be doing better if he played with the team though at least in the 2nd round as he’s playing very well. The 5 who played with the team are Buchannan, Herendeen, hunt, goecke, and Voois. Buchannan and Voois were the drop scores for rounds 2 and 1. That’s why they’re in the not included. I do wish most of our tournaments are golf stat or golf genius improves their layout. You can see Timmy’s score if you go to individual he’s T-7 with Jackson 2 over first round 2 under 2nd. Jackson went 6 over 6 under. Max (top 10 recruit in HS) in his freshman debut went 2 over 8!!! Under. Goecke had a solid 1 under first round and 4 over 2nd. Hunt went 3 over and then even (rough back 9), and Voois went 4 over 3 under. Mostly the 2nd round yesterday played easier except for Tyler and jackson specifically. This team can be very good if hunt gets more consistent and jackson too both can be really good (jackson could be the best college golfer if he figures out how to just play even when he’s struggling like adrien always did). Illinois can’t afford him to be our drop score adrien and Tommy almost never were. We have lots of talent but consistency could be an issue. But man so far this weekend has been pretty good. 6 solid golfers on the team not sure who will be the guy left out come spring. Probably one of the transfers or Ryan. Go illini!

Long way to go but a 10 stroke lead is pretty good...

Course is playing tough again. Really hope piercen figures it out. We need him to this year if we want to contend.

+10 on the day thru 13. good chance we still win but small has to be disappointed with the finish.

Some teams are in the 20-30 over. I have no clue what’s going on over there but maybe the conditions are rough? The best rounds are a few schools at 1-2 over par.

I can't imagine Small is disappointed with any that happens this weekend if we get this win. Stacked 1st tourney, not counting Illinois, 3,6,13,15,17,18 ranked teams. Plus other traditional powerhouses. I'm blown away that we are doing this and what a great sign for the year.

what in the world is all the we've got to figure this out and we need this to happen to contend, I'm seriously, we are the only team under par at this point about to win by close to 10 strokes in a huge event with powerhouses galore. This is amazing!

also Max is on the verge of winning, thats incredible, this is a freshman in his 1st ever match and he is trading blows with the big boys.

If piercen plays like this we won’t be able to actually contend for a national title or even a top 8. He needs to be a top 2/3 player on this team and way more consistent. We can’t rely on max playing this well as a freshman. I’m not talking big 10s

simply not how golf works on any level though. even pros. Hunt has been a stud for us but having an off day/tourney, he did count twice, is not a worry at all. and this tourney is actually evidence that we don't have to rely on him every week to win.

and I realize that national titles are the goals but much like the basketball, the best teams does not always win that and winning big events such as this one illustrates the strength of your program. This was a massive start to the year. I was worried we would have growing pains this year but those transfers were masterstrokes by Small

Small is expecting lots of growing pains, the team played far better this week than many thought they would.

Hunt doesn’t have to be the best guy on the team but if he finishes with the worst score of the 6 I don’t anticipate us winning a lot. But maybe max and the transfers and Ryan all play really well idk.
