It helps to do a Walter Brennan voice - a la Real McCoys - when saying consarn it all and by cracky and other expressions. I'm blessed: I do a great Brennan.

Illinois: Avail thee of birdies anon and sinketh thy putts forthwith. My kingdom for a bird, perchance an eagle or two!

Sorry.

As always, Go Illini!

Whoa, Nellie. What a climb up the leaderboard! Coach gotta be happy - for now. Manana is another day.

Weather in Eugene seems similar to weather here in northern Illinois. A factor for all teams. May account for scores.

Remember: Oregon is playing on home course with local knowledge.

Hang in there, Illini! Can do.

Mind blowing, 11 strokes behind the co-leaders and now we're tied for the lead with the hosts (and our future conference rival). Jackson stepping up big time, and Ethan working to earn his spot in the rotation. Well done, let's close it out tomorrow!

Alright, tremendous recovery and lets continue on through this round. Seems like the team is having trouble string rounds together so they have a little pressure on this one.

Ethan doing the hard work in the 1st round to keep things afloat and followed it up with another even par round. That is impressive and a top 10 is well within his reach. good to see. Also, great to see Jackson go low, he needs to be a stud for us to go deep.

The back 9 has seemed to be much more favorable to Illinois than the front so far. If we can just stay in it maybe we get hot on the back.
Back 9 has been much easier for the whole field unfortunately. Two short par 5’s make the scoring much better. Hopefully they can get hot and close it out. Would be a great response after a really tough first 9 holes yesterday.

In other college golf news……#1 UNC is getting boat raced at the Valspar. Such is golf. Tough to be at the top of your game consistently and there are so many good collegiate players now.

It seems to me Illinois basketball and golf have some things in common: they tend to start slow, don't have a true point guard and have never won a national championship. Buchanon is pointing the way, and I hope a natty is in the near future for both before I croak.

Re: Illini basketball. Who really needs a true point guard?

P.S. Six-shot lead a minute ago.

Looks like we were the only team below par on the day, as well as, for the tournament.
I always look at 280 as a very good benchmark for a team score. No other team went 280 or under for the whole tournament. Illini recorded 278 for both of the last two rounds. Great way to close it out!

Don't forget they both have a Jerry Gee / Ji!

Showed are pedigree there a bit, classy final two rounds for sure. Jackson has the go low gene in him and that is what we need. If Max can find a way to keep his bad rounds/stretches more reasonable he will become elite also. Really good win there.

I got curious when you said Eugene CC was Oregon's home course. I know they occasionally play there for tournaments, but I don't think that's were they practice on a daily basis. Sure they know the course well, they also play at Shadow Hills CC and Emerald Valley GC. They have a new practice facility at Emerald GC that is quite nice, opened Oct 2023, cost a few million. It's called "The Jake" named after Peter Jacobsen and his wife Jan, also a former Duck golfer. All three golf courses are quite nice.
