Looks like the course is proving to be a good challenge so far. All 15 of the morning wave teams are over par, with Purdue bringing up the rear at +14. And that's with ideal conditions: 60 degrees, overcast, no wind. We'll see how well the Illini and the other top teams play in the afternoon.

BTW for the women, the best finish in stroke play was +2, with +20 being good enough to advance to match play.

I think that I saw in a Jeremy Werner article that this is pretty much a brand-new course for everyone. It opened up recently and the only other tournament ever played on the course was the women's championship last weekend. So everyone is going in pretty blind with how to play it.

Yes, the championship is here for the next two years as well and they're hoping to become the permanent site like Omaha is for the College World Series.

Mike smalls teams are generally good at avoiding the crooked numbers. Just do that and take advantage of the easier holes especially par 5s and we should be ok.

(Half the schools now done. Ohio St is the leader in the clubhouse at +6)

Well not a bad first round. Tyler missed a short short putt for birdie on 18. But still got some birdies and finished near the top. Just gotta put better tomorrow and hope Jackson wakes up and rebounds soon!

good start for sure, our number 1 has an off day and still firmly within the top 8. Big performance by Max on the back, not a lot of guys under par back there. Team showing its depth. Impressive all around. fingers crossed for a very similar day today. only 4 up on the top 9th spot which is the cut line for the match play.

Consistent scoring from 4 guys but nobody better than top 25. Buchanan was listed as our number 5 guy so maybe Small knew he was struggling. Need him to find his game quickly.Golf is hard.

Great start for the Illini. Get to play early today and hopefully get themselves an early tee time again on Sunday.
I will say that the early tee time is not the advantage that it was the last few years in Arizona. In the afternoon the courses play so hard and fast it’s more difficult later in the day. Looks like high temperatures in Carlsbad are in the 60’s. Not exactly baking out the greens.
Great start for Notre Dame and Ohio State also.
Tennessee sure fell off a cliff after 9 holes.
