Poor choice of words. How about clunker?

I think people are getting their hopes up a little too high about landing Ayo. I have a feeling it will be very unlikely that we get him. Will we have an outside chance? Sure. But I don't foresee us being a real contender.

If you're not a real contender in that recruitment, there's no reason to have Chin Coleman.

We can get second-tier Chicago kids on our own.

So I see many fans on this board don't really want Moore for the Illini. He must be tainted because he is from Chicago. Moore, Coleman-Lands and Smith could all start as PG's like Brown, Wlliams and Head. Moore has proven himself in the Pac as a freshman scorer and leader.

While I would take CM, JCL is not a PG. He is an SG and 3 point specialist. He can not handle the rock. A good player but not a PG.

I'm sorry, but I have to call you out on this. Charlie Moore averaged 12 ppg as a Freshman in the PAC12 on a bad offensive team (160th in Off Eff on KenPom). He set the Cal single game freshman record with 38 points in a game, and was honorable mention freshman all-conference (behind two lottery picks). I think fans would be borderline hysterical if Frazier came in and did that next year.

I wonder if some questioning Moore's ability simply haven't seen him play enough. His scoring ability and talent level jump off the screen when you see him play. Sure he could be more efficient, but he was a freshman that was asked to step in and run a team from his first day on campus.

If Charlie Moore wants to come to Illinois, you take Charlie Moore. End of story.

Not gonna hate on the kid --he's tough, and has great range. I've never been a fan of low efficiency, high usage, though. High PPG doesn't mean a lot to me if it's based on volume.

If we have to choose (and that may very well be the case), I go for Smith every day of the week. I think he and Frazier are our starting backcourt by the end of the season.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
I know this, if we ever get down about basketball recruiting, at least we can say it's not as bad as football recruiting right now.

Dont know Chin but sounds like he is a great guy and knows the landscape and is connected in chicago.

After watching Cal special seems like this dude World wide Wes is power broker for top ranked recruits and probably OA has more experience with him...or maybe not so much in Chi town? or is it world wide wes is just the family loan and agent advisor for top recruits?

They might but it would be very very shocking to not see TJL as a starter, Not to say all 3 couldn't be on the court at the same time.

Again, this is only true if we assume Coleman was only brought on specifically to land a single recruit.

On the other hand, you have to figure that he helps with some of those sorts of Chicago recruits, and that he might help put us over the top with our share of them later on assuming our on-the-court product improves like we all hope it does, Dosunmu's decision notwithstanding.

Lol... I am a JCL fan and I think he has a lot to contribute here in the next 2 years if he's used correctly... but have you seen him dribble? Your statement that he could play PG is ridiculous.

Oh but btw we do have a pretty promising PG coming back who shined his freshman year and will be hard to sit named Lucas.

I'll take Moore if we need a PG when it is his time to make a decision. But if it's Smith vs Moore, I'm absolutely for Mark Smith.

I have been reading, or rather, skimming articles that indicate that with Bridges coming back to MSU, they are a final four team next year. Granted, some of these articles are from MSU press (or whatever) but here's an example of one that is not, if you need proof.

http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/miles-bridges-unexpected-return-makes-michigan-state-a-final-four-contender/

So my question is, if you were Mark Smith, wouldn't you want to go to a school whose basketball team has a very, very good shot at a Final Four or even National Championship next year? I will now entertain rebuttals.

I might be in the minority, but I'm not convinced they will be a "final four caliber" team next year. I'm not even confident they will win the Big 10.

I'm just pumped about Tejon Lucas next year, what a big recruit he was, he's gonna be a star in my opinion. Now back to discussing the new recruits...

I would expect to see TJL, TF, and Smith on the court at the same time for extended periods of time.

They can definitely all play together in this offense. BU wants to play fast, and they could definitely play with pace.

Throw Kipper and Leron in there and call it day.

What we'd lack in height we would more than account for with speed, playmaking, athleticism, and tenacity on the boards.

Surprised to hear this, but Jeremy Werner was saying that the Smith family were the one's that reached out to MSU in the first place. I've followed this recruitment pretty closely and didn't know it was the Smith's that made the initial contact. Also, Werner seemed pretty confident that Kentucky is out of the picture and that it is definitely down to MSU and Illinois.

Along those same lines, its going around the Duke circles that the Smith family reached out once Kennard declared.

Who knows at this point, but my Duke buddies are pretty confident at this point.
