Maybe I just can't read, but this tweet makes no sense to me from the standpoint of having actual meaning without some further context.

Found that on Nick Irvin's twitter feed, if you go to that UofK twitter there's a whole slew of tweets about Ayo and bbn and on and on. Not sure any of it makes sense or has actual meaning but it's a BBN fan tweeting so not sure they could tweet and have it make sense or give it meaning other than 'Cal get Ayo.'

Given the choice, I'd take Smith. Higher upside, can play this year and has one more year of eligibility.

If Smith wants Illinois, Underwood will prioritize him IMO. That said, if Underwood feels Smith is slow playing him and he can get Moore to commit, take the bird in the hand. Don't get left holding the bag.

Might be the best thing to let Smith know we've got other potential options if he doesn't wanna pull the trigger. Fear of loss comes into play.

2 questions.

1. Why would Mark Smith be listening to/visiting schools like Kentucky, MSU, and Duke if he is worried about playing time at Illinois because of Charlie Moore?:confused::confused:

2. Can someone name a recruit that wouldn't look good in BU's offense? Because it seems like every player mentioned on here "would look good in BU's offense."

The only thing better than question one is question two.

Outside of an occasional bruiser like Maverick Morgan, it seems as though every prospect we are even moderately linked to is tailor made for BU's system.

I think people are getting their hopes up a little too high about landing Ayo. I have a feeling it will be very unlikely that we get him. Will we have an outside chance? Sure. But I don't foresee us being a real contender.

I wouldn't say that we are the favorite to land him, but he already had a strong relationship with Chin Coleman which should keep us in it until the end.

This isn't Paris Parham 2.0, this is the guy who got Josh Cunningham to commit to Bradley over Indiana and got Charlie Moore to use an OV on Bradley.

One thing Groce never learned to do was leverage his hand and that's a big part of recruiting/selling. Understanding where and when to apply pressure to close deals.

Could it be that Smith is slow playing this because of the MSU scholarship situation. They might be waiting on McCoy and if Carter gets another year then there is no scholarship for Smith

Slow playing? He literally has in homes or OV/UV visits almost every day. His recruitment was really slow until about February and it has been almost non stop since then. If anything I'd say its really picking up and maybe shutting down within the next week.

if that's the case, this would be bad news for us.

Still think Smith knows and always has known where he was going, Mother as well on this one....

I believe that they have been encouraged to look around, enjoyed the scenic route and ultimately will turn down the road that leads to home again...ILLINI is the pick.

Smith, Frazier, Williams, Lucas, Coleman-Lands, that's a pretty good group to be throwing out there. Add a Hardy/Moore/or even Jordan to this mix and we will be running for entire games with no letup!

Now just have to figure out the interior play?

Finke, Black, Nichols, Williams, Jordan?

Recruits: Badocchi, Ernst, Johnson, Bruninga?:chief:

This hasn't really felt like a conditional pursuit from them.

what of his stats impressed you ? he shot under 40 % from the field and from 3 had 3 TOs a game plus he is about 5-8 or 5-9 and plays no D

I think his stats are great in the context that he was a Freshman. Brandon Paul was a pretty good player for us and he was a career sub 40% shooter from the field.

Grayson Allen staying @ Duke. Not that I had any concern with Duke.

wonder if they cancel Smith's visit. they do have one scheduled with Knox tomorrow too and he's a high priority recruit, Smith was more of a backup if Allen left.

I had same takeaway as you. PPG (12) was good and hes not afraid to shoot. Seems like CM may have high motor but he's not real efficient. Ill take him but would rather take MS if I had to pick between the two. I see CM as a lesser Trent Frazier at the 2.

On MS, I didnt see Blue Grass but based on board comments, seems like MS legitamately looks to get others involved....makes team better.

I'm sorry, but I have to call you out on this. Charlie Moore averaged 12 ppg as a Freshman in the PAC12 on a bad offensive team (160th in Off Eff on KenPom). He set the Cal single game freshman record with 38 points in a game, and was honorable mention freshman all-conference (behind two lottery picks). I think fans would be borderline hysterical if Frazier came in and did that next year.

I wonder if some questioning Moore's ability simply haven't seen him play enough. His scoring ability and talent level jump off the screen when you see him play. Sure he could be more efficient, but he was a freshman that was asked to step in and run a team from his first day on campus.

If Charlie Moore wants to come to Illinois, you take Charlie Moore. End of story.

Well said. Sometimes on this thread all I can think is that some people have never watched these kids play. Charlie Moore had a very good Freshman season in a P5 conference. As you said, if Moore wants to come here then you take him

If you shoot the ball more then anyone else on the team odds are good your going to score points, Moore is a lot like JCL either he makes shots or he tends to miss in bunchs. and I have seen Moore play about 15-20 times, and the most impressive game I saw him have was his JR year in the state tourney. If you like him and want him good for you and I hope for you we get him, I do not think he is the answer to any hole we need filled. I know for a fact he isn't going to help this team at all next season

Ref. "..think fans would be borderline hysterical if Frazier came in and did that next year."

I hope to be hysterical with TF production next year...but proof will not be his individual stats but rather how well he positively impacts an outperforming Illini team.

Well, sure, he isn't going to help the team at all next season since he will sit due to the transfer rules, but longer-term, he can be a real asset for a team that has had difficulty scoring. In addition, his commitment would probably serve as good PR in Chicago. I personally would like to see him and Mark Smith on the Illini. I realize that we will need some bigs in the near future, but I feel as if the staff can see this as well and will make the correct decisions regarding scholarship allocation.
