Have a nice wait there in Easton. Played against them in high school, do you remember the Conklin brothers?
Dbeav -- I played against the younger Conklin (Dave). Older brother John was even better! He ultimately transferred to Mason City...now Illini Central. PM me. Anxious to hear where you're from.

While I chose MSU as Mark's destination, I sure hope CASH is right.

For clarity, I am not saying MSU is a done deal, just noting what I have heard. I hope he trades the Orange and Black for Orange and Blue more than anyone else.

Wednesday night can't come soon enough...

As a fan base, we need this so badly. Not just so we can have a great player that could help build the program back up, but also so we can feel like winners in something again. The amount of bridesmaid recruitments we all have gone through is just ridiculous. For the sanity of Illini Nation, or what's left of it, please Mark. Pick up the orange and blue hat.

Man, I just can't believe we haven't heard anything about anything from Tilmon. Wouldn't we know if there were some in-home visits? I just can't believe that he's just sitting around doing nothing.

The word I have heard is that he is concentrating on his academics.

Just FWIW, Smith will likely be a lower RSCI recruit than Kendrick Nunn, Leron Black and Jalen Coleman Lands.

What we as a fanbase need is to win games. I've been meaning to update and bump the "Power Five Misery Index" thread, but spoiler alert, our singular, unique level of both sport failure just separates further from every single other school by the season.

I am confident that MS will make a decision. What that is, I have no idea. Obviously, I am not an insider. But I am confident a decision will come by May 14th or so. :D

Yeah, I understand Damonte's ranking dropping with his injury but Illinois Mr Basketball not being top 50, to me that is crazy. All I know is the DW, Trent and Mark can all play ball. The recruiting services have their view and in the end those rankings of kids coming in to college really don't matter. It is what the player does in college. Cal, Izzo and K would not be going after Mark Smith if they didn't think he will be player.

I get what you are saying. But there is far more hype around Mark Smith's recruitment than any of those guys. You can't deny that. Which is what I am alluding to with "winning something".

You are right that ultimately what we need as a fan base is to win games. I definitely agree with you on that. But it's these small victories that we haven't really had in a while that could bring some excitement back to Illini basketball. Baby steps. Small victories like this could help us build back to our true goal of winning games.

Hey guys I'm at Staples right now. They have a sale on F5 keys today. I'm thinking of buying a dozen for myself. Anyone need some too?

For a tiny band of remaining hardcore recruitniks.

Illinois Basketball is operating at about 1/3 of its fanbase right now. Only winning will even perk the rest's eyebrows up.

While that may be true, my gut is telling me that Smith will be by far the best college player out of that bunch

I know we always over-hype our recruits. But in the case of Mark Smith there is ample objective reason to believe he is underrated and probably significantly so. The kid was a baseball player until this year. He has blown up and if you watch the tapes the skies the limit here. Calipari and coach K and Izzo don't go after Kendrick Nunn.

Smith can adequately dribble a ball with both hands as well. I think that alone makes him a better prospect that Nunn and JCL. Also his body an athletic ability don't hurt either.
