Yeah, me either. Johnson fits their current needs more than Smith does.

Add Johnson and Bamba and things are looking up for them.

Perhaps so. And yet it appears that Cal offered Smith first and likely will be turned down.

Who cares if Smith is underrated, overrated, or why? As has been said by others, he appears to be a very good player no matter his ranking. Furthermore, Kentucky, Duke, MSU, and Coach Underwood wouldn't be pushing for him if they didn't feel the same way. That's all that matters.

That being said, no matter the reason they are recruiting him, it would still be great to have the story line that we beat out those other schools for a recruit. Albeit, a story line that most people won't really care that much about.

instead of a typical hat switch, im thinking he puts on a UI hat and it morphs into a green MSU hat and then he wins a championship

Definitely would give BU some apparent momentum out the gate regardless the details.

haha, that would be cool - a hat like those digital billboards that can switch teams. That would really keep everyone guessing!

Nah. It will be a sweatshirt over the team shirt. You'll see the orange collar underneath, but then it will just be a detachable collar he will remove to reveal the Spartan green MSU shirt.

I can't see this staff and program losing him to Xavier.... other schools though...

Xavier is the real deal. Their program is currently in a much better place than ours. They were able to get Paul Scruggs over us. Aside from us being the in-state school, Xavier would have a huge advantage in acquiring Ayo over us.

Scruggs was never seriously considering us, unless we got Kris Wilkes.

What are you doing to keep your brain so sharp? I'm 51 also and can't remember what I did yesterday.
I spend 14 hours a day on the internet at places like this :D because I am not healthy enough to go back to work (4 major surgeries in last 15 months and 3 in five months last summer/fall( :tsk:

Believe me I feel you and tell people the following all the time. "remember how we were taught that we were supposed to learn something new everyday, well I forget something new everyday now". :D

Can we think of any HS player that went from unknown, or a different sport, to Illinois Mr. Basketball in one year?

I'll set the over under at 1.:D

Anthony Davis didn't win Mr. Basketball, but his rise was fast & ended at #1 prospect in class.

Charlie Moore wasn't an unknown, but I recall he was an undersized shooting guard that had many doubters.

Before anyone gets into the Irvins better give us Ayo because we hired Chin, as with most of their top recruits, I doubt the Irvins will be involved that much. Ayo's family will likely be the main support/advisers for Ayo. His father is a coach and btw, his twitter feed is great to look at -- lots of short vids of Ayo at last weekends EYBL session.

Also, his grandfather owned the Harlem Ambassadors for years and took Ayo to their games when he was a kid, so he knows the sport and he and Ayo seem to be pretty close. Although I'm not sure how he is health-wise now. He's been battling Parkinsons Disease for a while.

They will eventually do a 30 for 30 on Davis I imagine...if he ever wins at the NBA level. That is a once in a millennium transformation.

Denny Pace started JV for Collinsville, only saw the floor in varsity games that were blowouts.

Started his senior year for the first time, led Collinsville to the state championship, first team all state, started for Illinois for 3 years.

Not common but it happens.

Others have tried to make this point, but right now there is 3 top 100 PG left and 2 top 100 SG on one sight that is a lot of the reason some of the big school at least took a look. I am not saying Smith isn't a really good player, but saying he is underrated just is a bit old, I do not think he is much different then DaWill, and I would rank them around the same place

Actually this is only half the point. Are UK and MSU going after Mark Smith this late in the game because they have open scholarships? Or are they going after Mark Smith because he's that good and his window for being recruited has only been in the past couple months? You don't know the answer to this question. I don't know the answer. I do know I've seen him play multiple times with my own two eyes and he can play at those schools.

Will the amount of guards we have on the roster hurt our chances with Ayo?

Not sure of his thoughts but I would love to see Trent, Mark, and Ayo on the floor at the same time. Not 3 guards, but 3 PG's.
