BU and the assistant coaches will more than makeup for any recruit defections or transfers by filling those open scholarship slots with names that will make us proud, so don't despair, just give it some time and watch it happen - go Illini.

Agreed. And if the Orlando Antigua rumors are true, that is a much bigger long-term positive impact on our program than the negative of a Tilmon defection, IMO.

Certainly a surprise, but as many have pointed out it isn't the end of the world. Would I like to start next season with Tilmon in an Illinois uni? Sure. But I still like the direction of the team. I'm probably more bummed that it probably makes Smith a long shot. Best of luck to Mr. Tilmon. He has to do what he thinks is right. Orange and Blue will survive and be thriving soon enough.

Any fan base of a basketball program who has never been to the Final Four and hangs banners in their arena for NIT appearances should be endlessly laughed at and ridiculed if they decide to get "big headed."

And there's also the matter of their 16-31 record in the BR.....

I don't want a recruit who doesn't want to be here. I think he would have been great at UI. However, ET hurt me back in the day but he hasn't turned out to be as good as advertised and he has already left TAMU for Clemson.

Drama happens in recruiting. Especially dealing with five star kids as ego and handlers want to always get the best deal most of the time. I still like the direction the program is going with Underwood and his staff. Illinois future is bright. We better be prepared for a lot more drama in recruiting because we could get into more top battles. Walker will help us have a chance to keep Tilmon and I like to see what Piper has to say as he has the best connections in the recruitment.

If he doesn't want to be here, it's no great loss. Probably would have the kind of mediocre season he had this season at ESL. Big man, small heart. Hit the JUCO and transfer trails for a big guy or two and move on. I will suffer another year of NIT if it means a greater reward down the road.

Hurts to lose Tilmon, but Illinois will be back in force within two years regardless.

It seems like Underwood is going all-out on top recruiting assistants, and his teams are going to score a lot of points. Next year might be a little rough with such a thin front line, but our backcourt is shaping up nicely.

And hey, maybe Tilmon recommits. Not expecting that by any means, but I'm not writing him off until he commits elsewhere.

I just don't understand why you re tweet your commitment, and wait weeks after Groce got fired to do all this. It's time we play dirty with the other schools, I'm tired of losing the big recruits for every reason imaginable.

The retweet 2 days ago is what makes this sting a bit. Not completely unlike the Cliffmas hat trick.

He can't visit other schools until his release is granted, correct ??

He can visit any school to see "friends" or former classmates or whatever. He's not supposed to see anybody from the program. But unless someone follows him with a video camera it would be pretty hard for accidental run-ins to not happen.

No one is denying him anything. But you don't go around leading everyone to think you're coming and then pull the rug out. Needs to be more honest about his intentions and everyone could be fine with that.

He's a 17 year old kid. He may not be clear on his own intentions. This is very different than the Cliffmas hat trick.

So how is this being scheduled, if he hasn't been released. Missouri can't talk to him!

I wish there was a way to prove all of this!

The article does not mention that he has scheduled a visit, just that a visit is a possibility. Obviously, if he does not get released, he will not start visiting schools until such release has been granted. But that is irrelevant in this situation. We will release him and he will then take visits to schools he wants.
