So this class already includes the #1 ranked player in Illinois, the #1 ranked player in New York, and a top-10 ranked player in California and some people are not excited? And we could still add the #1 ranked player in Missouri.

It’s because we have had a consistently highly ranked classes with Groce that accomplished nothing.

Alan Griffin comes in ranked as the number 1 player in the 2018 class in New York State according to @NYCHoops (final rankings)

Congrats to Alan and that's a huge accomplishment considering how competitive the State of New York basketball is.

Is the state of New York that bad at high school basketball? How is he not ranked or only a 3 Star on some recruiting sites?

Feliz is a VVG PG.

I mean, we're his only offer, the film seems okayish, he kinda seems like just a guy. Which would be fine if that were a position of real need, but how many minutes are even available behind Trent and Ayo? TJL seemed to think not very many.

And a two-year block of scholarships seems neither here nor there, it's not a long term player, but it's also not a scholly available to us next year when we project to have two, maybe three at most.

A 5th year Khalid Lewis depth stopgap I would understand. A developmental redshirtable freshman I would understand. Feliz I do not understand. I can't fathom taking him over Hinson, that's for damn sure.

Someone explain the Feliz thing to me.

Just off one highlight tape I thought he looked like a TJL who can shoot. Since we all know that was TJL's biggest deficiency, and he seemed like a solid bench guy talent-wise, I can see the appeal (especially if he isn't gonna get suspended for violation of team rules). TC will point out that Feliz led all JUCO in assists at around 6.1 per game (I believe).

Like everyone else, I'd rather have Ramey, but Feliz seems like a solid plan B.

I owned a pair of those I wore every game for the rose bowl season but I double laced them with orange and blue laces. Also a solid choice for bears games.

I can't imagine Feliz is a factor in the Hinson recruitment.

The state of New York has some of the best basketball in America. Griffin is currently getting a re-ranking. Stay tuned.

Is "Lets Get It" a new recruiting tag? Noticed both Griffin and Ayo used it in their twitters. Guessing announcement was pushed up to help with Ramey recruitment if rumors about somebody else popping soon are true.

The 6.1 APG is correct but I think he was just top 10 in that stat for JUCO's. He did shoot 41% for 3 pt which is impressive. I like the fact that he turns 21 in July and has had a wealth of International experience. He played for OA's brother on the Dominican Republic's national team. Appeared in the Pan Am games, too.

You know you're spending too much time on recruiting twitter when you update your phone, see that shushing face emoji and immediately think "every single 17 year old recruit is going to be using the hell out of that"

Right now we have the 28th ranked class in the country. I'd say that grades better than a C+. I'd go solid B if not B+. I like this class. Tons of athletes and potential!!

If I'm reading how 24/7 does their rankings, according to them, Griffin and Giorgi don't even add any points to our team ranking, since they weren't ranked at all in their eyes.

I'll take BU and the staffs word on whether they will help our team or not, over that ranking. According to 24/7, Ayo is worth about 29 points on their calculator, Tevian another 20 and Samba around 7. Griffin 0, Giorgi, 0. Our class total is 55.47. If we can assume Griffin and Giorgi are worth 5 points each, that bumps us to 65.47, which puts us at #6, ahead of Kentucky.

I think we are probably somewhere in the middle of that span, 6 to 28, but I'm not sure how many schools ahead of us in the rankings have unrated players.

Kane and Jones' film looks great. Griffin is like Feliz, it's fine, you can like it if you want to. What little there is of Giorgi is underwhelming.

...and am I completely insane, or does Ayo's tape look distinctly four-starrish? Obviously he's just got such a more developed frame than Trent had or has, but if you asked me to compare Trent's HS tape with Ayo's, I gotta go with Trent, who seemed under-ranked from the moment we got involved.
In fairness to Ayo and Super G ergi they played a much higher level of competition in high school. If the videos are from high school imo that should be considered.

4 shushing faces and 5 gorillas... oh man... we ALL know what THAT means!

He's seen an early screening of the new Rock movie, "Rampage?" He's giving it 5 gorillas because he has to be quiet about it. Nailed it.

I mean, he's no George Conditt or anything, but I guess he'll have to do. :thumb:

Ayo is not the kind of super athletic kid that is going to wow you in highlight films. But those who have watched him play entire games -- and many of them -- rave about his ability to control the game. Almost everybody has him a 5* for a reason.

Think Cassius Winston, but 6'4" and much longer. Perhaps not as good a distributor, but better scorer.

Control the game and dominate it. He piles up points with regularity against quality competition. That is my hope for him as well.

And there's no doubting his first step and his lateral quickness, as well as his excellent size and length for his position. All of which bodes well for his defensive development.

But you think five-star Chicago PG and you're picturing a more explosive leaper and a more spectacular dime-dropper than what I've seen from Ayo, that's where my comment comes from.

If Ben Wilson had not been shot, there is a very good chance he would have played at Illinois, but he was never committed. You can't include him in that class.

I thought he had but I was just going by what Nick said to me years ago.

Anyway I didnt mean to start a debate I am very excited about our 18 class. I love our back court with TF and Ayo. It's hard to try and temper expectations. I just one or two players pop like TF and Gill did back then from this year's class. If so I think we will surprise some folks.

I think his ranking is based on multiple summers taking over games at marquee events.
