Don't understand the concern. It's the biggest moment in the kids athletic/educational/social life(to date) and he wants/needs his mother there. I'm not quite seeing the concern.

I don't see too many people concerned about this one. I see more people talking about other people concerned but not too many jumping off the ledge in the first person.

I see more people saying to stop panicking than I do people actually worried. 🧐

This one has actually had very limited drama by Illini standards.

True. And I gotta agree with you 100%. That being said, right now we appear to have everybody returning—minus seniors and Higgs for medical reasons. We have the potential to add one of the better recruits we’ve had in years to fill our greatest need. The arrow is pointing way up for us. Which is typically when everything goes to crap.

That being said, I find it hard to believe that Kipper doesn’t leave as a grad transfer—simply because his playing time is not likely to increase. And if he leaves—who else is going?

So you think Kipper is strategically waiting to enter the transfer portal?

Good point. Not sure why he’d wait. But he lost his starting spot last season to Demonte. He’s undersized to play the 4 and Georgi is likely to be locked in at that spot.

So at the 3 spot he’ll be competing for time with Demonte and an improved Allan Griffin, and Tevian Jones. Kipper just seems like the odd man out. Do you see Kipper getting many minutes?

Anyone know when Kouma is supposed to sign? I assume January won't be, correct?
January wont be. Kouma hasnt even visited yet.

More chance for minutes here than transferring without graduating(cause he cant) and sitting out his entire senior season.

Not sure I see him transferring, but also not sure I see him getting many minutes. I could see him being that 15-20 minute role player....though 20 minutes really seems like too many. Who knows?

Has it ever been stated in the media that Higgs is leaving for medical reasons? I've never heard it outside of this board....

Kipper could be a big contributor next year just because he had an off junior year doesn’t mean he can’t come back like he did his sophomore year. If you can find his three point stroke again I think he could be a strong contributor

Totally agree. More than anything, he just needs to get his head straight and find his role. I think back about how many games he's played in where he was the most dominant player on the court. We need him to be that Kipper again. Confident he can be.

That would be 1

Kipper has had a weird knack for being unlucky. Maybe you can blame it on talent, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him become a much better player next year.

No. There has been nothing official came out about Higgs. And Higgs recently Tweeted that he missed the season due to a food injury.

I think he needs to find a clear role. Is it to defend? Is it offense? Is it rebounding? I think at this point, it's hard for him to pull it all together. He has the potential, but my opinion is that he needs to understand what his role is. If he can play defense as an undersized 4/5 which allows us some greater mobility and to run a smaller line-up at times, that would be great. There was a guy on Texas Tech, I think it was Brandone Francis who wasn't very tall, but he was strong. I saw him hold his own against Michigan state. Kipper seems to have the same frame and if it's just to defend and rebound...I'm good with that.

I've said it before, Kipper just doesn't seem to really want it, or in other words, doesn't have the killer instinct. Maybe he can develop that and maybe Underwood can finally coax it out of him. But with several years of evidence, I'm going to wait to see it happen.

Also, this board is kind of like the lead up to the NBA draft, specifically for guys like Cam Reddish. At the end of the season, everybody is down on their/his prospects, but by the time the draft rolls around a few months later the rose-colored glasses are back on and people have convinced themselves the guy will be a stud. I think we (as in people that watch basketball) continually overrate raw talent and underrate the desire to win and be great (whether that's as a superstar or just great in the player's role).
