Maybe Goodwin just wanted everyone to understand he is a top 30-50 player in this class, get the big offers and attention and then commit to the beloved once the national exposure came??? ;)

This is very true. Once he commits to Illinois, he won't be able to rise further in the rankings. It's proven based on years of data. :D

Barring disaster we're almost certainly going to have a top 15 class even without Goodwin and Tilmon just because we have so many schollies to give out.

I wouldn't say that, you still need a couple of top 100 kids minimum to have a chance at the top 15. PSU's class this year has 4 guys, 2 in the top 100 and they are generally in the 15-20 range. If we can't get Goodwin and Tilmon, it seems unlikely we'd be landing equivalently ranked guys as replacements. Williams, Pickett and say Frazier, Negron and another 3 star is probably not top 15.

Couldn't help but notice Groce was the first coach mentioned by Goodwin in regards to who he has a great relationship with. Fingers crossed.

This is why this board is funny. Goodwin gives an interview and everyone is pretty optimistic because of what he says about Illinois and his relationship with Groce. Tilmon gives an interview who also mentions his long relationship with Groce and everyone automatically writes him off and assumes he's not coming here.

No need to put stock in what a recruit does or doesn't say until they release their top teams, visit dates, or official announcements. At that point, it's probably good to pay attention.

That remind me of how Bates-Diop was just waiting to commit to Illinois until all the big offers came in so he could turn them down and stay in state. Worked out well for us!

I see so few people that will admit this but it is 100% true. In the end you have to do what you think is best for you.

100% true is maybe a bit of a stretch. Hopefully Tilmon agrees, but at this point it seems we're the desperate wallflower who's thrilled to be the backup plan.

Knunn/tate replacement? Pretty good late pickup if one of those guys isn't back.

My first thought as well. If Thorne is gone, you have to think they will give that slot to a fifth year big. If Thorne is back, it's his slot regardless. So that only leaves Nunn/Tate slots as options for Moore.

I like when Tilmon was asked what coaches he has good relationships with, he first said Groce then followed it up with "the North Carolina coach" like he forgot his name. I know it means nothing but it made me chuckle.:D

Sounds like Charlie Moore is very open to playing alongside Te'Jon. If one or two of our players end up being dismissed or deciding to transfer, there's at least a slight chance we could end up with Moore and a 6th-year Mike Thorne. Something like this smells like a tournament team:

PG - Moore/Abrams/Lucas/Tate?
G - JCL/Nunn?/Jordan
F - Hill/DJW
PF - Finke/Black/Nichols
C - Thorne/Morgan/Finke

Subtract one or both of Tate and Nunn (my gut feeling is that Tate stays and Nunn goes). I'd be excited to watch that team.

I think you would have to see a player red shirt that year to help some balance. I would guess either AJ or DJW would have to if enough people were in front of them. Ik it's not realistic but it be for the best.

Or JCL when he doesn't get admitted to the CoB...

Ps, if anyone couldn't tell, that was sarcasm

To be fair, KBD only moved into Illinois around his freshman year, and he was all OSU the whole way. Don't let anyone tel you any different.

That'd be a fun team to watch. Theoretically speaking, I really don't see Moore starting over Abrams. And I'm not convinced he'd start over TJL from the get go, either. TJL is ready to defend at the next level, Moore is going to be a defensive liability.

Moore reminds me a lot of DJ Cooper. That can't be bad. Also why I was disappointed when he initially chose Memphis.

In that scenario, Lucas or Moore would be the red-shirt candidate. It's unlikely that both will be ready to play at a big ten level. Plus, I'm guessing Groce will set really high standards for his PG's. 2 things he values greatly are keeping care of the ball and playing defense, and freshman generally tend to be bad at both.

But I don't think we will get Moore and I don't think Groce will waste too much time on him. I'm guessing he met with Moore just to see if he was genuinely interested in coming here.

Take your choice, 4 years of Charlie or 1 year of Tate.

For basketball reasons I take Moore all day everyday. I don't want to diminish Tate's efforts here but between his arrest and lack of production it's a pretty easy choice.

Moore as a red shirt makes me go

I saw DJW or AJ simply for reasons that those positions are more crowded. TJL and Moore would both be 1/2 people who if Tate/Nunn are gone would be required to step up more. Especially if Abrams is severely limited which is possible.

I'm not as high on Moore as others, but at this point I think you go after him hard. If Tate is gone and Tracy happened to have a set back, you're going to need 2 PG's next year.
