Signed with Army a while ago. I thought he would be a good walk-on but can't blame the kid for taking a D-1 scholly.

It's not really a D-1 scholarship if you are at a service academy considering that everyone gets a full ride there.

I'm going to be extremely annoyed if we don't go after CM. I like TJL, but CM is a much better player IMO.

Add DePaul, Miami and Georgia Tech. C'mon Groce, pick up the phone.

Michael O'Brien ‏@michaelsobrien 2m2 minutes ago Appears John Groce’s shaky status could be an issue for Charlie Moore and the #Illini. But Moore’s camp hasn’t heard from Illini yet anyway.

welp, nevermind I guess.

I understand your argument that different standards aren't fair, but practically speaking asking a coach to sit out a year isn't possible. How could you ever hire a coach from another program if they had to sit out a year? Hire an interim that knows they have no chance of keeping the job and is likely going to get fired when the new coach comes in and puts his own assistants in place? It's just not practical.

I know it's illogical to make a coach sit out a year... I'm just discussing it to point out the overall hypocrisy of the NCAA in general. :D

Make sense... I guess Pastner's shaky status going into last year WASN'T an issue at the time??? :hand:

which is why he had an opt out.
And yes, going into the season, Memphis had a very good team and were expecting great things. It was only after they really underperformed (without any significant injuries) that Pastner's situation became shaky.

It's not even close to being the same thing though. The recruits still get a scholarship even during their year out.

Coaches are suspended from games all the time. It would exactly mirror the situation for a transferring player, they can practice, travel with the team, be a part of the program, etc, but they just can't coach the games. Let assistant coaches move freely, so someone from the new HC's staff can coach the game.

It would be a little strange, it might be able to be gamed, but it's hardly impossible.

For a player who has committed to a Big Ten school, put up huge numbers as a junior (24 ppg) and brings as much talent and versatility as he does with a growing body and game, Belleville East’s Javon Pickett remains a bit overlooked. He’s only getting better.
As I watched Pickett last week, he gave the Hoops Report a bit of a Thabo Sefolosha type feel as a player.

Also talks about Verge, Smith, Eastern and others.

If Groce doesn't contact Moore eventually, it better be because he knowns Moore has no interest at all in becoming an Illini. Moore is the kind of player Groce should be pushing the house forward to get. The reason we have been so bad under Groce is because players just like Moore and Watson have gone elsewhere.
