DePaul is the North side school, maybe he wants to stay in Chicago. Maybe he wakes up tomorrow after having a dream about an Illini chasing him and picks Illinois.

This recruitment has no solid leads out there to whom he’s leaning toward. Right now the writers are grabbing at straws.
Anyone i would trust has no solid idea on who he’s picking. I like recruitments like this.
This is false unfortunately.

Wow, what a surprise, a ton of negativity on this board from fans that already have zero faith in this staff.

I think a lot of people thought this was the staff to come in and change our recruiting pattern of being a bridesmaid and never a bride with the top recruits. Not happening and no reason to think it ever will. Lots of signs for discouragement honestly. If we aren’t pulling in our plan A or high B guys with Chin and Antigua and Underwood with their recruiting reps and connections, maybe it won’t ever happen.

Got to look at this positively, we conserved an official visit.

I accept the fact that some of these kids are not going to want to play for a coach like BU, and he's not going to cater to kids attitudes or desires just to get commits. He wants HIS guys. He's changing the culture and we are going to miss on more than a few simply because they won't fit the culture.

I assume that in order to get in the recruit's top four, both attitude and desire are a fit.

It's gonna take winning consistently. People are way too impatient. These top recruits want to see results. Underwood has some nice young guards and wings to make this a reality. We just need a couple bangers and we are in good shape. Whitman is not gonna can Underwood after this season unless this team absolutely quits on him. I don't think that'll happen. If we miss on our targets here early it'll be because of the past several seasons. If this team shows grit and fight and goes .500 in conference(or close) we could gain a lot of momentum this year. If someone like Kipper, Higgs, or Jones can show the world that a high flying, slashing 4 can dominate in this system we will gain some traction. We need a good example to sell future recruits and that doesn't exist YET.

Not necessarily. Perhaps he is being respectful because he likes Chin and BU and is thankful for their recruitment of him, but in the end he doesn't fit?
It's all mind reading that we are trying to pull off here.

It's not like we were fighting against blue bloods. TS was a recruit that the staff needed to get and expected to get. The concerning part is the discrepancy with the staff's expectations vs reality. Almost too much confidence in their recruiting abilities based on who they've targeted from the get-go. This is recruiting battle that'll hurt the perception of our staff's recruiting competence.

I can't say I would blink if we lost a battle to Florida State or Maryland - programs that are significantly trending upward. Lose out to DePaul, well, that would raise my eyebrow. Either way, as mentioned 4,329 times previously, win with what we got - they will come.

[Waxing philosophical] That's part of it, for sure. There are myriad reasons any given recruit can base his decision on. Each recruitment is independent. [not directed at skyIdub] Be very careful about drawing conclusions from independent events. It's the nature of the recruiting business to be disappointed more often than not. If we're cleaning house, we're targeting the wrong guys.

Unless he's going with common logic and picking the school last visited. Usually when a kid sets a commitment date after a visit that's where they choose. We can only hope he wasn't too impressed.

He and his family were very impressed with FSU and what they sold him. On record in stating that.

I disagree. We wont win them all but even though he wasnt what we expected we did land Mark Smith plus Ayo. There were players at or near the top of our lists. If we can get one or two each year that is a start of a good foundation and more should follow. Especailly if BU develops some players while they are here. If sounds like that has begun since the end of last season.
I may be wrong and I do trust BU and the staff but Terrence's shot looks awful imo. If he does commit and I hope he does since BU wants him that shot will need a lot of work. I want shooters and 33% in high school isnt very good for prospect. DI wing prospect. We shall see what happens and go Illini!

FYI, that shot is pretty okay considering he is known for slashing and dunking and even with that shot, 6 months ago he had virtually no D-1 interest or offers. I would say he is teachable and he can develop his shot as he developed everything else in a short time to get his education paid for at a major university.

Illinois hasn’t been to a NCAA tournament since 2012-2013 season and people want to know why we aren’t getting our A or B guys. Start winning.

Shannon picking DePaul doesn't automatically mean our staff dropped the ball. Some of you act like we have mind control over these players. They go where they wanna go. Just because its not Illinois doesn't mean our staff is failing. Illinois is a tough job. Some kids want the most exposure they can get, others wanna stay close to home. A few kids have state pride and want to wear the orange and blue. Bottomline, each recruit is different and its hard to draw conclusions if we miss out on a player.
