Its nice to see the staff testing the spectrum of bigs. Shows they at least have awareness of the current situation.

The is a sentiment by some posters that recruiting failures of the past were caused by lack of effort, spectrum, strategy, etc. None of it is true. You will not beat opponents with recruiting "strategy." . What differentiates good recruiters is their ability to close the deal with talented recruits, without leaving positional gaps (as opposed to supporting the positionless mantra, thinking or hoping that those gaps do not exist).

Have to hand it to the staff, they're at least getting these quality bigs on campus. Now we just need to close.

I woke up this morning feeling optimistic, so figured I'd share the positive vibezzz with the board. That is all.

Vibes unknown. Recruiting is a zero sum game. I'll get stoked when guys commit (to us, as if that needs stating).

The marketing seems to be doing well --lotta leads. Quick, send the staff to sales school!

We're in the final options for a lot of our big targets still. We're doing something right. Good vibes!

Not necessarily. This seems to be where we were last class too. We brought in a bunch of big targets for official visits. But the only outcome was that we used up all our official visits.

In fairness, due to the peculiarities of last year's situation, we did bring in a lot of bigs but they were overwhelmingly of lower quality than the ones we have slated to visit this year. Still have to land them, but at least the floor seems to be higher so far.

Lower quality yet we still couldn't land him. The good news is that there are plenty of good bigs to go around this year. Last year's class had no depth at all at the PF or C positions. We have no excuse to not land a top big in 2019. If they fail this year, they'll continue to fail afterwards.

Of course, though I am still of the opinion that it is likely more difficult to land a lower-tiered kid like that than many of us might think. If you shoot too low, those players (and their family and coaches advising them) are going to assume that they will be recruited over pretty much immediately in the next cycle. So, while we might have been a certain player's "best" option in terms of the level of our program, we might not have been in terms of their future playing time.

Every program probably has a sweet spot for where recruits are easiest to land. Landing recruits outside of that range requires a great sales pitch. I think we were recruiting some kids that were below our sweet spot last year out of necessity. That doesn't mean they couldn't have turned into nice players, but it does mean they are likely to have a bit of skepticism about joining a program that historically lands recruits that are more highly-regarded than them.

It's kind of weird that there isn't 1, but 2 weekends with more than 1 OV. We've had 2 guys on campus before, but I think it's kind of weird. Wouldn't you want all of your attention on 1 guy? Maybe it wasn't avoidable.

History would say the opposite.

Edit: I fail at linking.

Yup, lots of different opinions, but the product on the court was a disappointment last year, and lots of questions arise from it. On top of that, we have a really tough schedule for a team with so many freshman, AND we've whiffed on enough recruits that it's hard not to second-guess what we're doing there.

Welcome to the off-season of a program in rebuilding mode.

Vibezzz didn’t work for Wake ;)

That's true, though Wake's vibezzz did alert us all to this gem:

Edit: I hope the gif is showing. It shows up in my "edit post" dialog but seemingly not on the board itself. Just in case: Imgur

Okay, gotta ask, who is TSJ? I just checked the grid and I see no one with the initials TSJ. The closest is Terrence Shannon.

Terrence Shannon, Jr.

But yes, I don't see why we are all so enamored with using initials instead of names. It made sense with Coleman-Lands, because that was obnoxious to type out, but Shannon is pretty easy.
