Melendez fits more in the Tev Jones mold (who is finally tapping into that HIGH potential at Southern Utah). RJ is a lot lankier and a better athlete, and at 6-7 he would be bringing a skill set to the roster that we currently do not have and haven’t had in a while. He might be a bit of a project, but his potential is through the roof.
Wow didn't know he was averaging 17.4 pts per game. Good for him.

That is who I was talking about. Not throwing shade at all. Had a good 3 ball and is 6'4" and pretty ripped. Most of the highlights against inferior opponents. The only HS competition Mark Smith has was ESL, most the rest were cupcakes. Thats what I seen.
Well, except for the 4A state champions in the same conference.

Is EJ Liddell a cupcake?

I said most not all. Do I really need to post Edwardsville HS schedule for you guys to understand? Don't be a hater.

Southwestern conference is no cupcake.

Collinsville
Edwardsville
East Side
Alton
Belleville West
Belleville East
O’fallon
...... Granite City....

I do think Collinsville and GC have left the conference
Are you saying no other D1 players have come out of Brandins conference? He is outside of Milwaukee much like Edwardsville is outside of St. Louis. Im not even sure what you guys are trying to accomplish here. Stats are pretty similar, size pretty similar, blowing up senior year similar. I guess you guys are saying he isn't even in Mark Smiths ballpark and we should be irate that we are recruiting the kid.

I don't think anyone implied any of these things based on the logic you offer. Proximity to a city does not determine conference strength. All they're saying is your example was bad: the Southwestern Conference is solid competition.

I watched some more of Pods highlights and perhaps you guys are right. Smith was actually quite a bit more athletic. I should have went straight for the Jason Kidd comp.;)

Right. School that started Lidell, and our own Keith Randolph.
Also Pickett from Belleville East. Lot of talent the last few years in the SWC. T Hargrove at slu now from East St. Louis too. Smith also played althoff who had J Good

I work at one of these schools and can testify (I get to supervise many games)....competition is solid.
Collinsville is still in the SWC......Granite is not.

It was bugging me if any of those teams had the orphans as their mascot. I was thinking of Centralia.

Didn't mean to get you guys fired up from the metro east area. There were quite a few great players there the last 10 years including Malcolm Hill. Hope we can pull some players from the area but it seems they are in love with Mizery down there.

When I was growing up in SO IL (70s-80s) UMSL Soccer got more attention from the STL media than any ILLINI sports. And Mizzou was definitely king. Glad I found my way past all of that.

STL media is its own little bubble and they do everything they can to hype up all things missouri. Lots of fluff pieces how clownzo brakes for puppies and rescues nuns from burning buildings.

LOL, good one Bob!! Maybe throw in the Edwardsville scorekeeper on what constitutes a Mark Smith assist. BTW, I didn't know that the AD's son is an Illini graduate.
