Is Podziemski a fall back if we don’t get Cardet/Melendez? Or we could take 2 of the 3?

I’d rather have Podz than both of them. His ranking is bizarre to be. He’s got star written all over him. He’s as good of a prospect as Miller was last year IMO.
Yeah, not sure about being on par w/Miller, but he could be. Think he's a baller, for sure.

Thornridge = Quinn Buckner. He was a man among boys. Quincy and Bruce Douglas were another favorite team. Jim Brewer and Proviso East = beast. A quick Wikipedia reminded me they won 4 straight state championships. Back then, the IHSA state tournament was bigger than March Madness, at least if you lived in central Illinois. And the Illini were pretty mediocre until Lou came to town.
I loved going to watch the State Tourney in Champaign. The 81 Quincy team was the best team I have ever seen., They blew away everyone in the tourney except for Lincoln in the Sectional in Decatur. Two HOF coaches going at it. Loren Wallace against Jerry Leggett. Lincoln held there own against the bigger Quincy team with Payne and Bruce and Dennis Douglas. Lincoln's biggest guy was 6-3 I believe. Quincy won 64-58

I believe any team would have trouble beating the Peoria Manualbgroupbthat won Four in a row. Three of that team were all starters as Illini together.

True, but I never seen them play since I was moved out of state when Manual was great. But you never know.

Proviso East's 3 amigos squad wasn't too shabby. Loved that Quincy team though. Speaking of HS, putting up 30+ in 32 minutes (max) is pretty good. Podz's stats from yesterday: 23 PTS (9/13 FG), 9 REB, 7 AST, 6 STL

The Manual team stopped Thornton twice I believe when they had Melvin Ely, Napoleon Harris, Tai Streets, and Antwan Randle El.

Not the greatest basketball talent ever assembled, but 4 guys with pretty long professional careers 3 in football one in basketball was pretty impressive.

Their coach's jacket was perhaps more impressive. Purple velvet, Yeah, they were loaded.

BTW, I like Podz.

Erik Herring was a terrific player on that Thornton team. He ended up playing for Jim Larranaga at George Mason. The only one who had a better basketball career of the group was Ely at Fresno State. I know that team very well. In 1994-95, they were 30-2.

1 loss to Manual
1 loss to Schaumburg High School!!!

I didn't play one second of that game, never actually got the warm ups off, but I had a front row seat on how the impossible can become possible in sports. That was the most impressive team that I saw in my four years of playing HS ball. They were scary to watch warm up and Randle El just talked and talked and talked....all game. That team beats us 99 times out of 100, but on this one night...we got them.

They proceeded to not lose again until Manual.

Thornton was the Buffalo Bills of Illinois High School basketball.

Notice he didn’t start the last game.
In following Misery's Message Boards, their fans are disappointed in him. I like this on multiple levels. Who knows how much damage his parents did to the Illini in the St Louis area?

Just checked out his recent stats. Since Illinois game (9 games), he’s had 3 games where he shot better than 28.6% from field and 3 games less than 20%. And during same stretch he’s 9 of 42 from 3. Yikes.

His parents need to get after Coach Martin. It has to be coaching, couldn't be Mark.
