Ramey not better than Demarius Jacobs?? Not sure you meant this, but even if so, I guess it doesn't really matter who is a better player as we'd take both for sure. We'll take Ramey no matter who we have.

Less than 12 months ago, Jacobs was a SIU-C signee and ranked in the 300's. Now he's a 5th year prep and averaging less than 13 ppg and only 2 apg and people think he's better than Ramey. :D

Hence why everyone always gets so disappointed when any freshman struggles. Our expectations are unreal here.

Okay for the reading impaired here...I stated I didn't think he was ALL that much better than Jacobs, meaning Ramey. ALL that much better would insinuate that he is in fact better than Jacob, I believe the gap is smaller than most is the point of the posts.

:chief:

I do in fact think that Jacobs would be a #2 or # 3 by position and skill set, and Ramey would fit more of a #1-#2 by position, hence, Jacob is better suited for what we need next year.

A solid backup for the #3 position, as it will probably be Jordan as of now with current roster makeup, and we need obviously a mobile big as well.

This article is only a little over a year old: see stats and summary for comparision head to head. Granted it is only one game, but...

247 finally shows Ramey as being under us for Offers. We are "Warm". I always get a chuckle out of what kind of thermometer they might be using for cold, warm, and warmer. I don't think it has same degree of accuracy as the one my 7 year old niece uses for hide & seek.

Jacobs is listed at 6'2" and 165 pounds. He's not playing the 3 unless those numbers are wildly off.

I wonder if a visit on Sunday would change that thermometer??:thumb:

Seen DP and others mention him at 6'3" with a longer wingspan. He isn't a PG or a post so his position is irrelevant on offense. The question is where he fits in on defense. With his wingspan, the staff apparently feels he can guard taller wings.

Regardless, I think Jacobs is a guy that BU likes because of his mentality. The kid is a fighter. It's painfully obvious that this team needs a mentality overhaul. Whether we end up taking Jacobs probably depends on how many scholarships we have open at the end of the year. Given how this season has gone, I would lean toward him being an Illini next season.

the talent level on the team has numerous players who can't dribble and drive to the basket without fumbling the ball, let alone make a play...

losing 70 % of our scoring from last years team combined with the limited athleticism of the returning players placed enormous pressure for the freshmen coming in to take up the slack...some have performed beyond expectations ( TF ) , some haven't....we have a team struggling to create a
" culture " let alone win some games...the scoring droughts are appalling and show what we need is scorers, shooters and fearlessness mentalities...

I sincerely hope and pray that help will be coming soon...Ayo is a good start but many more are needed for me to realistically think we have a chance to return to the dance in the near future....

I would love to get Ramey, but we really need one of Jones/Taylor, or both. Need length, scoring and athleticism for this offense/defense.

This season has been a reality check for Underwood. I think he came in with the mentality that he could add a few pieces, implement his system, and get things on the right track fairly quickly. I don't think he fully realized the culture change that was (and is) needed.

The reality is that this thing needs to be torn down before it can be built back up. BU needs to bring in players that can create a new culture, even if those players aren't top 100-level talents. If we can build a core of players with the right mentality, while adding a few top 100 or even top 50 talents (Ayo, Jones, Ramey, Liddell, Okoro, etc.), we can build a winning program again.

Wingspan is one thing, but guarding someone that is going to outweigh you by 70 pounds (e.g., Miles Bridges) is another. He'll need to get on the patented 5k calorie diet.

agree with your post...we have been running in the mediocre to below average lane for so long that no one really realized the amount of " bad culture " that has been entrenched in the heart of the program...recruiting alone won't solve this fiasco but is the most important FIRST STEP to accomplishing our goal of being in the dance every year.

I used to worry about our seeding ,not whether we make the dance....After so many years of being on the sidelines come tourney time I relish the thought of returning to the previous mentioned worry about seeding level..

I think BU can get us back to that level, but it's going to take longer than even HE realized....wonder if he ever thinks "what have I got myself into ?"

A couple of key pieces, like a center and Illinois can compete next year. Several of the BIG teams are losing
players to graduation or NBA. Like to add a player or two like Trice, Cunningham, or true big shot blocker.

Last two games Matic looks like he is getting thicker. Actually see hope that he can add value in two years.

This culture and mentality thing is getting blown way out of proportion. This team already plays hard and buys in. They play the way BU wants. There's just not enough talent/size. BU talks about mentality and culture because those are the things he can control and demand instantly. He can't instantly fix Damonte and Smith's shot. Or magically make Finke and Black grow 2 inches and jump higher. But he can challenge the players mentally, which they have always responded to the game after they get challenged.

Mentality means nothing if you can't shoot or drive and finish around the rim, or have size/athleticism. We need talent plain and simple.

Personally, I think it is the SIZE that gets blown way out of proportion. The lack of speed/athleticism are the killers. I remember a team that topped off around 6'7" and was one of many here's all-time faves. Upgrade the speed/athleticism in this system, and big things can happen without big men.
