Figured we would hear from him. Tate is reckless.

No, Tate was misquoted. Like everyone, he is speculating about who might leave. He said that Jordan was graduating and “could be” leaving. Someone listened to the talk show (where everyone speculates) and incorrectly tweeted out that Tate said that Jordan “will be” leaving. Big difference.

I would hate.... absolutely hate to see Damonte and MSmith leave. Thing is I remember Ayo saying Smith was recruiting him hard so why recruit for a team if you are planning to leave? Hoping none of the new players leave.

No worries.

Seems like every year people think the recruits are going to be so much better than existing roster. I sure hope the prediction for departures are totally wrong or we will be worse not better next year.

Agree, he was misquoted. He was reckless with facts as well. He is graduating "before winter", not this Spring. Tate had no real knowledge, so he shouldn't have been speculating.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
I'd be thrilled with Jacobs. He's the type of athlete we're lacking.

Would like to have him, though I wonder if that takes us out of the Ramey sweepstakes (even though I think we were long shots to begin with).

My concern with Jacobs is that he's not known to be a great outside shooter, and for a slasher, he's not very big.

But if he plays aggressively, then that's something we need.

No more reckless then apparently a whole bunch of posters on this board. At this point we have the entire team transferring with exception of Frazier and Black and I've even heard Black mentioned on here as a possibility. I think we're vastly overstating how many people will be gone next year.

Let's not soft pedal the fact that it's Tate's official job to discuss Illini athletics, not a hobby.

I have a hard time getting excited over a 6'2" guard ranked 330 who can't shoot. Who's he going to be an upgrade over? Where would his playing time come from?

We lost to Michigan State because we were out-rebounded 37-15. We lost to Ohio State because we were out-rebounded 45-22. We lost to a mediocre Iowa team because we got beat up inside. We lost to a weak Wisconsin team because their post player chewed us up. I think it's obvious what we really need.

I'm anticipating transfers. We need bodies. Underwood has to fill scholarships. Context is everything.

He would come on the team and be one of the best athletes on this team....they need size but they also need athletes

I'm also having a hard time getting excited for a lowly rated and undersized shooting guard who isn't a great shooter. I would love to be wrong but it seems like we're really trying to get someone to say "yes" at this point.

And everything I’ve read about Jacobs is that he is aggressive, athletic, and tough as nails. That is exactly what this team is lacking! One step closer to changing culture, hopefully.

Depends on if he turns into Jevon Carter or not,

"Illinois offering Jacobs also makes sense because of his connections on the AAU circuit. He ran with the Mac Irvin Fire in the summer and this is the same team Ayo Dosunmu ran with. There is already a chemistry built with those two, and I would bet Dosunmu gave some type of recommendation.

Jacobs has averaged 12.9 points, 5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.3 blocks per game for Hillcrest Prep. He doesn’t just specialize in one area on the floor. I like that. He can do everything or whatever the team needs him to be. Underwood is going to love that."

Really!! Maybe one or two transfers, but maybe none. Illini will not lose near what some people think.

Haven't you been keeping up? We are going to lose everyone on the current roster, but that's okay because the 13 freshmen we bring in will be better than all of them and will lead us to the tournament.

Sounds like Jacobs is awaiting word from the NCAA Clearinghouse as to whether he is academically qualified. This is what caused him to de-commit from SIU-C. It is rather late in his 5th year prep school to be awaiting for a qualification decision.
He can't even take OV's until this is resolved. I'm sure people will want to throw this back on our admissions department but really it's a Clearing house issue. Other's??

I don't understand these repeated narratives that both Jacobs and Ayo can't shoot. All I can guess is that these posters have not seen either play. Ayo is a plus shooter and I have seen it with my own eyes. A bit streaky at times but he can fill it up and hit seven threes in a game earlier this year.

As for Jacobs, he is not a volume 3-pt shooter...true...but that is because slashing with his superb athletic ability is his preference. However, just look at the stats...Jacobs shot 48% from three and 81% from FT line as a senior at Uplift and 41% from three and 87% from FT line in his prep school year. This is not an absolute brick layer here.

I am not saying Jacobs is the best fit but shooting is not a huge concern for me with Jacobs and, yes, I have seen him live. However, he is shorter than both Ayo or Ramey so that is a concern as he is locked in at the 2-3 position only. He is a phenomenal athlete and would be a huge upgrade in that regard and the potential to be a lock-down defender.

As an aside, Ramey is the guy I want hands down over everybody remaining. He is a fantastic athlete, competitor, defender and teammate in a 6'4" body and could make both Ayo and Frazier that much more lethal. Also, I think people may be surprised how well Ayo can shoot considering the groupthink narratives and he has played off the ball some with Morgan Park.

Austin Trice will be visiting Illinois again tomorrow. For those keeping score, that’s the second visit for Trice inside a week. I’m not an insider, by I would be mildly surprised if he doesn’t give a commitment tomorrow.

In regards to Demarius Jacobs, he said he is interested in Illinois and will probably visit next week. He also said no one else is in the mix.

Twice in one week? If I were a betting man.... :)
