I don't see Caroline returning to Illinois. But getting him at SF to go along with Cunningham and Leron would be a huge upgrade. Need big though with 2-3 years elgibility.

Is there any indication at all that he's interested in transferring?

I mean, he seems to be doing really well for a top-25 Nevada team. Presumably, he could come back to Nevada for another year and have a monster season. Why would he leave?

I can understand Cunningham transferring considering Dayton had a coaching change. But Caroline?

Cunningham's Mom drives from the Southside of Chicago to almost every Dayton home game.

C-U is much closer than Dayton. :) Has either side reached out to the other, however? Haven't heard about anything concrete, just heresay and speculation.

Our only 2 commits within the last 10 months have been massive projects.

I assume you mean big man commits.

We definitely can't afford to roll the dice on any projects in this class, unless it's somebody with such promise that you can't ignore. The name of the game is finding people who can play right away and have the hunger and tenacity that we are sorely lacking elsewhere on the roster.

Yup agree.

Chris Payton gets the stamp of approval from my fellow Illini bro (who's very well versed in hoops). Saw him play a few weeks ago (along with Morgan Park and Fenwick) and was quite impressed. Kid is good at everything. Thinks he'll be a legit BIG player.

I'm not so sure Illinois has a great shot at Chris, which is strange since he's 45 minutes from campus. He might be holding out for a blue-blood offer. I dunno. But his Illini recruitment is eerily quiet.

I've seen Chris play many times, he's developing into a real high caliber player. I think we're interested, but I'm sure Liddell and Whitney are slightly ahead of him right now. Because of that, we're in a tough spot. Hope we can find room for him somehow.

Well, he's almost certainly not going to get a blue blood offer.

He's exactly the kind of kid we need. He's a fighter, and really gets after it.

Maybe this is overdramatic, but I genuinely believe Underwood's ability to succeed will be dependent upon finding temporary help in the post for next years squad. If he can't successfully recruit a freshman or grad transfer post player, our team will again struggle mightily next season. IMO, another free fall season without any conference success will make it incredibly difficult for Underwood to recruit the type of players we desperately need to be a successful program. I'm all for adding players like Cunningham, Trice, & Jacobs to our team (they are all high energy guys that play really really hard).

On a side note, when is it possible to start recruiting grad transfers?

The staff has a TALL task ahead of them this spring/summer. Need multiple impact players to go along with AYO for 2018, that’s become quite clear. As someone noted in the post-game thread, recruiting has gotten that much more difficult with how awful the season has gone. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Assume the staff would like to get at least 2 or 3 of the following.. in order of likelihood?

SG Damarius Jacobs, 2018 - 4 CB’s to Illinois
F Trice, Juco
C 5th yr grad transfer not yet being talked about
SG/SF Luis Rodriguez, 2018
SG Tevian Jones, 2018
F Cunningham, grad transfer
PG Ramey, 2018

5 new faces come October?? Undy about to go Lovie on us in the off season for at least a couple.

Given his comments recently -- and the atrocious manner in which we're playing -- something is seriously wrong in that lockerroom.

So yeah, I'd be surprised if we bring in less than 4 new faces for next year. Ayo + Trice + Cunningham (?) + Jacobs + a legit 6'10-type grad transfer? that would be my ideal solution.
