Nothing wrong with Rako this year. Many opinions seem to be off his attitude during his junior year. His play and maturity has changed during his senior year. Maybe you are worried about an Illinois coach that is too lenient with his players. I would take him due to his change in attitude during his season.

I don't know. I only saw Rako play twice and he seemed to do a lot of immature things on the court. He hasn't committed anywhere yet. Is that because he hasn't gotten the offers he wants? He has talent no doubt just don't think I would want to deal with him as a coach or a fan.

I know there is a lot of reservation about Rakocevic here but, after watching him in Peoria for last two years I think Groce at least has to offer him a scholarship. Maybe he doesn't want to come to Illinois but, we at least have to try. Is he a little immature sometimes on the court? Yes. Could he be stronger? Yes. But, you can't teach 6-11. The games I have seen he has consistently rebounded and blocked shots. Mostly stayed out of foul trouble. He has some work to do on his low post game but, gets a lot of put backs down low.

As far as dominating smaller competition... how many high school bigs do that? I don't recall Meyers Leonard looking that dominant in high school either. The numbers are there for Rako most games.

Chastain's overall game and unexpected athleticism reminded me of Jon Ekey. Similar builds, although I don't know what Jon looked like in highschool. Similar heights, good jumpshot, can jump out of the gym. Jon may have been more of an MVC talent, but was able to put together a decent season in the B1G and would have been a great player for us if we wouldn't have been relying on him so much.

I'd be perfectly fine with offering him should a spot open up, I think his floor in the B1G would be solid role player with potential to develop into more.

Meyers Leonard jumped OVER a kid to slam home a one man fastbreak dunk. He absolutely dominated smaller competition, lol.

Leonard averaged 19, 11, and 4.5 blocks per game in HS. He also shot like 75-80% from the foul line.

Leonard is a rare talent from a small 2A school.

After seeing Zach Norvell in person yesterday I'm thinking we missed out on him. As with most recruiting I don't know how much interest there was from either party but, he looked like a pretty good player. Hit some 3s and got to the rim. Not sure we can have too many 6-5 guys that can do those things. Ultimately Sobolewski from Benet got the better of him with the game on the line but, I think I take my chances with Norvell going to the basket in most cases.

Illinois offered Rako ages ago. He made it pretty clear this winter he wasn't interested in Illinois. He has two officials set up for after the season - Miami and USC. Between what he's said and what Pingatore has said, I'm pretty sure he'll be Miami bound.

He had his moments no doubt but, he wasn't an automatic scorer down low. He did make his free throws regularly though. That definitely helps.

He's a redundant player in what have. We needed a good athletic defender, that can give you some offense. We got that in Kipper.

Norvell made a great choice. He is going to a better basketball program than Illinois, he will go to the tournament every year and has a better likelihood of maximizing his talent at Gonzaga.

I agree. Will probably be great for him and Gonzaga. Just hate watching talented kids at the state tournament every year that are leaving the state for college.

This is good to hear, and was to be expected.

Goodwin is a beast, on both ends of the floor. Groce and Illini need him badly. Hope we get him.

Agree Goodwin looked really good this weekend. Hit some shots today and his defense is terrific. Very determined player.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Chastain has a great basketball build and length and for a guy his size is really able to move well. That being said, we already have guys that are more athletic, most notably Nunn. He looks like one of those kids that has tremendous upside as he has some great raw skills but doesn't appear to have been coached very well. The first step with him will be adding some muscle to his frame and teaching him how to play defense because defensive fundamentals were atrocious, and that fits our current roster pretty well.

First of all Nunn may not be here next year, second I don't think Nunn has this kids hops. This kid shoots like a mother and jumps like a brother. This kid playing against doesn't change the fact he appears to have a 38+ vertical at 6'6. If this kid ends up going to Purdue, Wisconsin, NU it appears like our next local boy haunting.

Not savvy with posting Twitter on here. But Goodwin is retweeting Illini stuff. He's feeling the love. We probably shouldn't read much into it, but it certainly isn't a bad thing, right..
