Losing Williams would be far, far worse than the other pgs you mention. He's a legacy, downstate in our backyard and traditional area of strength, and is not top 25 which are the guys we struggle with. It is an absolute make it break. Hopefully the staff knows that.

DI coach: #illini recruit 2017 Da'Monte Williams is the best kept secret in the country. Stock is rising to Top 25 status nationally.

Negron is @ Butler today and was @ DePaul yesterday.

I have not been impressed by Negron in the times that I've seen him. Not a bad player, but I believe some people on this board seriously exaggerate his potential.

Tilmon and Williams are by far the top in-state prospects in the 2017 and the top recruits for Illinois. Even more so with our positional needs.

I also liked Eastern a great deal before injuries, but I have not watched him yet since coming back.

I can't find his stats but I've seen Eastern play 3 times this season. He's not dominant and definitely lets the game come to him but he's quietly scored 15+, rebounds/defends, the offense goes through him and ETHS won. By all accounts he has recovered 100% from injuries and according to one relative insider he's now 6'6"...and growing.

Eastern has recovered from his ankle injury. He made the all tourney team @ the nationally acclaimed Chicago Elite Classic in December that included Tatum, Tyler Cook and Alterique Gilbert. Just last week he made the all tourney team at the prestigious King of the Blue Grass Festival in Louisville. His latest offer is Xavier. Duke has shown some interest because of Scheyer. He has visited NW a couple of games. He's been to MSU and of course he's been to C/U but not recently.

I admit I haven't seen Damonte Williams play a whole lot, but my initial impression is that he reminds me a bit of Charles Matthews who went to Kentucky. Seems to be more of gamer than Matthews, for all the athleticism I saw from Matthews his potential never seemed to match his production. Damonte is way ahead of Glynn Watson (st joes) at same stage and not the true PG or shooter that Brunson was. But Damonte is bigger and athletic than Brunson as well.

For those who say Damonte is taller, more athletic, and better shot than Frank. Why do you still say he is not at the same level Frank was at high school. I agree, I've seen Damonte do some things athletically I don't recall Frank being able to do (dunk with ease). One thing I do recall of Frank was his strength, passing ability, and intangibles (winner).

Frankie could not dunk with ease? I do not think many posters here saw Frankie in HS.

Frank was a better player in HS at the same stage. Damonte is still work in progress but improving, would be a great addition, position of need. At the same age Frank was a better ballhandler, passer, floor general, with tremendous court awareness, leading Manual to state championships. Frank was never really a great shooter (in HS or college) but had great ability to break people down 1-on-1 and drive to the basket or stop for a short quick jumper. Damonte has better physical built, but Frankie was deceptively physical in HS. After Serge and Marcus graduated from Manual, in his last year, Frankie often played forward, even occasionally posting people inside. He played all positions on the floor.

Frank was the MVP of the 1996 IHSA state championship game as a Sophomore. Da'Monte was no where near that level, as he was primarily thought of as a mid-major prospect at this time last year. He's gotten better and it's possible that he could get to Frank's level, but he just isn't as dominant at the high school level as Frank was. As a college prospect, not being a pure PG also lowers his stock, at least in my eyes.

Frank put together one of the greatest seasons I've ever seen any player put together during the 1997-1998 season. He played all five positions for Manual and single handedly made Manual one of the best teams in the State in spite of the fact that Manual had lost two High Major D1 players and started 5 Guards. He was a McDonald's All-American and Mr. Basketball in the State of Illinois (over Corey Maggette and Quentin Richardson). He averaged 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists a game. That's an absurd stat line, even at the High School level.

Frank was clutch and could take over any game at any time. I just don't see that in Da'Monte, yet. I grew up in Peoria and am the same age as Frank, so it's hard for me to say anyone is better than he was. He was already a legend by the time he was a Sophomore in High School.

I liked what I saw Da'Monte do at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament. He is so much more dangerous when he attacks the rim. Until recently, he's just settled for mid-range jumpers, which is ridiculous when you consider how much more and athletic and bigger he is than just about anyone who is guarding him. Against Joliet West and Curie, he was driving to the basket and at least getting to the foul line if he wasn't able to finish.

As a PG, he actually reminds me of a shorter version of Shaun Livingston, at least in the way he brings the ball up the court. He slows the game down, which I'm not really a big fan of. You don't see this when other players for Manual bring the ball up the court.

Thanks for the input. I saw Frank mainly at the college level. I saw him struggle, especially during his redshirt freshmen year and at times his last year. But he was also dominant at times, especially the Iowa and Kansas game (30 pts).

I think Damonte will peak later than Frank and can be a good college PG. If Damonte is a coachable player it can also determine how far he will go.

Frank was a natural point guard and leader.McClain called him "Nitty" because of his toughness in the clutch. Damonte seems to be a combo at this point. Maybe he will ultimately be better than his dad. Who knows? But it would be nice if he ended up in orange and blue.

:thumb: Frankie had some amazing dunks. After Sergio and Marcus left he was one of the tallest guys on the team, so he was guarding the center of the other team on some nights. Him guarding Brian Cook was a sight to see. He averaged 8 or so rebounds his SR. year, he was very physical. He was also as clutch as they come. He hit game winners a number of times from well beyond the 3 point line.

If we were to somehow land Tilmon, Goodwin, and Williams, I'd think everything was right in the world.

I think we snagged us a real gem in TJL. Just have this feeling he's going to be very good at the college level.
