What a punk. It takes no courage or toughness to cheap shot a player going up for a lay-up. There was no attempt at the ball. No class.

I don't know how dirty it was, at least from watching that specific video. Was it a hard foul? Yes. But I guess it's just not as bad looking as it was made out to be. I was expecting a full on 2 handed, complete arm extension shove. From that vid it looks to me like the kid may have been trying to at least make a play on the ball, however overly physical it may have been.

Hope the Centennial coach deals with this like he should.

Since he left him in the game after this happened, you can count on nothing happening to him. He made no attempt on the ball! I think he realized how bad of a play it was. He went over to him to help him up after the play, but obviously that wasn't going to happen with the extent of the injury.

I saw the video, the hit was not that dirty. Looked like he put a hand up to block the shot but missed the ball, badly, and TJL just landed poorly.

I was there and saw it live. He made no play on the ball. Most all that were there say the same.

Some notes from the game Saturday:

Quinn Nottingham could be a decent player at a much lower level school. To start he was guarding TJL but Lucas was not guarding him.
As far as Washington goes, for the first few minutes of the game they were running Lucas off of off ball screens to run the offense through him. Once that wasn't really doing anything for them, they were all about the fast break. Lucas didn't bring the ball up more than he did but they were an extremely athletic group and fun to watch.
TJL had a pretty dribble spin move to split two defenders on one fast break. Late in 2Q and most of the 3Q TJL started to put on a show with his shooting. His shot seems different for some reason when I was there. However, it went in a lot.
As far as the play goes, it was a dirty play. No attempt on the ball, clear run out, washington was up double digits. I understand competition and never giving up, but there's better ways to defend a layup. As bad as it sounds, was happy to see it be an ankle/foot rather than the knee. All of this jmo

Are we watching the same video? Guy led with his shoulder.

Yep. From that angle, it looks pretty clear that he led with his shoulder. Only after contact did he make an effort to lift his arm "to make a play on the ball". Not the worst thing I've seen from HS sports, but not a clean play either.

Don't be so focused on whether the defender's hands were up on the play. That doesn't make it "not dirty" just because he put a hand up. Look at the direction of travel. As TJL heads to the basket, the defender ran away from the basket, through TJL while he was in the air. I can't tell you the number of serious injuries I've seen over the years that resulted from players being cut under and pushed while in the air - including broken legs, broken ankles and a broken back. There's no need for that in basketball. The penalty needs to be severe and coaches need to teach that there is no win worth ending a player's season or career.

Leads to the current philosophy in hoops where a kid keeps his hands up while moving the offensive player with his lower body.....just because you have your hands up does not mean you are not impeding, moving in the other player's space or flat out fouling. I love the hands up in the air with the "what did I do?" face. Call it, penalize it and take some of the more egregious physicality with feigned innocence out of the game.

That was not even close to an excusable play. Took him out with the shoulder/chest, then raised the hands. And look at the angle the jerk took to make the contact. Someone said his coach left him in the game, meaning the refs didn't throw him out?

Guys, the kid made a mistake. I am sure he feels terrible and had no intention of hurting Tejon. It does not excuse it but remember we are talking about a 17yr old kid that made a split second decision.

"Milwaukee Washington will continue its pursuit of the City Conference title without its top player.

Senior point guard Te'Jon Lucas, who signed early with Illinois, broke his fibula in two places in his right leg during a 76-65 victory at Champaign (Ill.) Centennial on Saturday, an injury that could require surgery to heal, Purgolders coach Freddie Riley said.

Lucas will miss the rest of the season, but Riley is hopeful that Lucas will return to action in time to prepare for his first season of college ball.

"The doc said this happens more commonly in football than basketball," Riley said. "He said the stats show that people who have had this surgery and get the plate and screws in their leg normally come out of this really good."

A question for those that have actually seen TJL play in person, how's his quickness and athleticism ?

Looked fantastic in transition. Deceivingly quick. Good finisher and did well finding the extra pass. I remember JCL struggled in his trip to parkland last year and scored a quiet 17 or 19. TJL scored in bunches and shot well.

They have to talk about something on here. In the world of recruiting news, there are virtual tumbleweeds rolling by...

Hi folks, long time lurker first time poster. I was at the game on Saturday. Yes, it was a somewhat dirty play, and a mistake by the young man who did it. Hope TJL gets healthy soon!

Athletically, I don't think he's on DJW or KN level. I would compare him more to KL. The highlight video on Scout doesn't show his most athletic plays from that game, when he used his quickness to either get to the rim or find an open player. As previous poster(s) alluded to, he was able to score in multiple ways.. 3ball, drive, foul shots. For his size, he's able to drive and take contact well. He played pretty good D too. He had something like 4 steals in 3 q's?

Looked pretty dirty to me. Clearly tried to run through TL and didn't make much of a play on the ball.

My 2 cents as well. If going through someone is making a play on the ball, then he made a play on the ball.

Put it another way, if that was LeBron he ran into, he'd be sitting out quite a few games and paying a hefty fine.

Fair, but could you imagine another big ten school's fan base not reacting similarly? An out of state recruit injured by a player from the same town as the school? It's hilariously ironic imo.
