Theo John and Derek Culver are bangers and we have a shot at them? We need at least one of them to commit.

Those types of players are the types of players that our program needs.

Sign me up.

New dream class:

Pickett
Williams
Tilmon
Verge
Goodwin
John or Culver for the final schollie.

...and we're back!!!

Hello final four or NC

Not by a longshot.

You seem to be gong out of your way to use over the top hyperbole lately. (longshot, 9 million)

And you said something about Tea leaves, when you have doubted the Tea leaves about the 2017 class that have not only been leaked, but have been out in the sun waving at you.

You called Henrickson a homer the other day when he said he believed we could get the great class.

And then you wrote in a single post on wanting Groce fired, but not wanting us to lose the coach with the recruiting inside to the 2017 class.

Thinking there is some sort of strange gameplan to this wierd series of posts and hope it becomes clear soon. I have always liked your posts but something has been eerily different in the last couple weeks.

Mardi Gras?

Carnival?

Dirty Rio Water?

:D

True. But if we weren't tea leaf readers around here, what would there be for us to do?

All I know is, when Illinois locks up classes full of quality in-state talent early, they tend to do very, very well. When they try to shoot the moon, it has blown up in our face literally every single time over the past decade-plus.

The key is quality. Locking up kids early can be dangerous game. Talent evaluation becomes very important. Think of some of the pretty hyped names who rose to prominence early:

Donovine Stewart
Mike shaw
Jalen James
Tommy Hamilton
Alex foster
And on and on

I'm just hoping Tilmon commits.

I love that we already have a six man class and NC, surprised we haven't creaned guys for a bigger class in this thread ... yet.

Don't see it being a six man class. Think they likely end up with 5 and a fifth year to try to get some class balance back. Having 6, 1, 4, 2 as class sizes has to end eventually. I know people don't like 5th year players around here anymore but it makes sense when you have 5 freshman coming in and only 1 senior (and that is assuming Leron is back but not a RS - combo highly unlikely). I get attrition but no seniors on the roster is not optimal.

I will admit I ask about this kid because I have a good friend who is good friends with his family. I saw the linked article on him so I thought I would ask those more plugged into high school hoops what they know about him. Tai Bibbs out of West Chicago. Says he's on the rise. Could he end up on Illinois radar or more mid major? Thanks

I've heard MOB and Henricksen mention him a couple of times but here's his Verbal Commits page and it looks like he's probably a mid-major prospect. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/tai-bibbs

I agree with your post, but I'd take Tommy Hamilton on this team. I'll bet JG would too.

That's not a very good "dream class." I don't see Scruggs, Wilkes, or Bowen on that list.

Also, in light of the Leron Black incident, I no longer would pursue Verge if there are any character concerns. Also, we'll have a 1-3 in 2017 that consists of DJW, Kipper, Jordan, Coleman Lands, Lucas, Pickett, and Williams. Goodwin still makes sense to me because of his versatility and a guy that brings a ton of toughness to a team. Williams could play some point so unless it's another top flight guy like Scruggs, we'll actually have some options.

Always concerns me when KU and NC offer. It's difficult, but not impossible to compete with that.

Not meant as a challenge, but what's the most recent example of an early class of quality in-state talent?

2009 -- DJ, BP3 and JoeTales -- Good group on paper, turned out fine as a class.
2010 -- Richmond, Leonard and Head -- Great group on paper, but not good production.
2011 -- Egwu, Abrams, Shaw, Henry -- Good group on paper, but 50/50 production isn't great, either.

I guess my thinking is that even getting the "quality" guys early hasn't worked out that well for us either, in the last decade-plus.

Does Tilmon have a Twitter account? Curious to see who all he is RTing (not that it matters - See: Elijah Thomas).

Watching Finke in the Mattoon Regional. Big bro and Malcolm Hill are here.

They have spent the entire halftime taking pictures and talking with Team MASSIVE (our student section). Pretty classy.
(Also, not sure if I attached the picture correctly.)
