Clear path to immediate big minutes, assuming Big Mike isn't back next season. As that's an unknown, it hurts. Otherwise, I'd think we have a decent shot.

Every Illini coach needs that one big recruiting class to be successful.

For Henson, there were really two great classes: (1) The Winters, Douglas and Altenberger class who led the Illini to the '83-84 BIG title, and (2) the Gill, Bardo, Anderson and Battle (transfer) class, aka the Flyin' Illini.

For Kruger it was the Peoria trio (Griffin, McLain and Williams), although they weren't technically one class, they were a package, which Self led to the Elite 8 in 2001.

For Self, it was the Dee, Deron, Augustine class, which Weber led to the championship game in 2005.

That's why the 2017 class is so important. A great class could really turn the program around and quickly.

Let's hope that Groce can get 'er done.

Idk how to feel about our chances with Froling. We don't hear a ton about him, which is understandable given his location. The program is so down right now, that I feel like I need to be pessimistic by default. Groce has completely surprised with recruits before. JCL is a great example, I didn't think we had much of a shot. I guess we will know in a couple weeks what his decision will be.

What a brutal weekend for that kid to visit. Cold as heck and no students. All the other schools will be full of students when he visits them. Doesn't help our chances at all that's for sure

Probably a courtesy visit for Ford spending a week in Australia to visit him and the area. This one would completely shock me if he commits.

If anybody wants to watch some highschool basketball today featuring some current, former, and future illini and nationwide targets, the highland shootout is streaming live. Go to http://www.highlandshootout.com/ for the link to watch, and also for a list of the games and players being featured. There's a game of interest starting at 2:45. Hazelwood mo (sneed) vs springfield lanipher (xavier bishop)

Father tolton (columbia, mo) vs Peoria manual and chaminade vs Belleville altoff are later. I don't need to tell you guys who plays for those teams

Depends on what he's looking for. AZ routinely brings in top bigs. He may shy away from that if he feels he won't play much. It seems to me that this is the emergency replacement for TJ Leaf.

I'll pull up with a bag of popcorn and some cold ones for the Manual/Ft. Tolton game....and not just to see DaMonte Williams. If anyone has never seen '17 5-star recruit Michael Porter Jr play, you're in for a real treat. 6'9" forward with every kind of bb skill imaginable. Been compared to a young Kevin Durant. Kind of reminds me of Ben Simmons too. Really wish we were still recruiting him too, but he's got Dook or Kentucky written all over him. Oh well....I'll happily settle for the future great Williams if he chooses the O&B!

I'm guessing the official hasn't started yet, probably tonight or first thing in the morning. I believe the visit was scheduled for the 10th & 11th - I believe the limit is 48 hours. So this is his free time before the "official" starts.
