I've been saying this since last summer: Gilyard is tiny and plays out of control sometimes, but his quickness and motor are off the charts. Three years from now, someone will post, "Evan Gilyard is averaging 17/5/5 with 2 steals for UTEP. Sure would have looked good in an Illini jersey." I firmly believe he's going to shred low-mid competition in college.

He's giving us every opportunity to land him. Normally, a coaching change this late in the game would do a team in, but Smith said he's looking forward to meeting the new coach and building a relationship with him.

I haven't followed too closely what's going on with Crean at Indiana but if he somehow gets fired and goes to Mizzou smith will most likely go there

Actually on this one I actually have a pretty good one. I've never posted or tried to be one on any recruit. Just someone who has regular contact with him and spoke to him recently fwiw

As Werner put it, can't believe an MVC school didn't take him.

Gilyard was a stud tonight. He has some big time swagger. Huge steal for UTEP. Mark Smith was a little off tonight. We need him badly in orange and blue.

He's one of those guys that's just a couple inches and a few AAU performances from being a high-major guy.

What makes you say that?

Crean isn't getting fired, anyway.

He's like Luwane Pipkins crossed with the Tasmanian Devil. Will not be shocked if he leads the country in both steals and unconscionable heavily contested 3-point airballs. He's a hoot to watch - one of the ultimate, "no, no, NO, YES!!!" players I've seen. Going to be good at UTEP.

Did you get to watch him go against Verge and Thornton last Friday night? The Meanstreet guard duo goin' at it. Great game for about 3 quarters with Evan and 'Zo going toe to toe, but Gilyard just had too much help. Alonzo was practically out on his feet by the end of it but he was the best player on the floor for that game. Kept Thornton in it for as long as he could. I really enjoyed watching the two of them over the summer -- I remember you and I talking about that during the AAU season. They're quite a pair.

Their running partner Nojel had quite a game tonight too, but Young had too much for him, probably much the same as Thornton-Simeon last week.
Coach S.Parham‏ @coachSPham
Wy stats Javon Freeman 23 pts 7 reb. Xavier Castaneda 20 pt. 5 ast. 5stl. Lucas Williamson 17pt. 6 rebs.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed at NFHS. Wanted to watch Mark Smith but it kept buffering every 20 seconds. And I know it wasn't my internet. Needless to say, I cancelled my subscription immediately. The weird thing is I watched a 1A super sectional a week ago and it worked almost perfectly. Maybe too many people trying to watch Simeon vs Edwardsville.

That's what I figured too -- too many people. Watched a lot of games last year and no problems at all. (In fact, last year on Super Sectional night, I was watching 5 games on 5 different tabs, switching back and forth and don't recall any buffering at all.) Last week, fine. Tonight I watched the Fremd-Jacobs for 2 quarters and the OT and it only buffered once or twice and then only for a second or two.

epenesa is just massive

What game were you watching because if Epenesa does anything to help Smith they keep it close in the first half...

Simeon wasn't going to let Smith beat them & he was double & tripled teamed all evening....Marinko & Stephens could hit the side of a house & EHS struggled....

Now this one I had not heard from Smith's camp......

Now that Smith's high school career came to a close....He's going to start to put things in line for a decision for the April 12th signing period...

It's unfair to draw massive conclusions from one game. Epenesa is one the top ten overall athletes in this state. I know most of the people on this board would have wanted to see Mark Smith play one more game but let's not for a second characterize this game as Mark Smith and some scrubs vs the mighty Simeon because that simply wasn't the case. Edwardsville is a undoubtly a ten high school in IL. It just doesn't have the same name recognition to Chicago area people because it's a 20 minute drive from STL instead of Chicago.

Just talking about how big he is. Not how he was impacting the game
