Just a reminder to keep things classy, Illini Nation. Other recruits (including his friends) may read/follow this board.
Seconding strongly. The memory of AJ's dad posting here should be fresh enough to deter really bad behavior (some of which I'm sorry to say we've seen in the past several pages).

Nobody really knows the extent of communication between Goodwin and our staff, nor do they know the communication of other Illini recruits with other staff.

Were Serge and Marcus men of character and perfect communicators when they mad a change of heart at the last minute and chose Illinois? I can tell you with certainty that RMK/Indana were pissed.

Goodwin is the same person, whether he chooses SLU, Illinois, or another school. And he ever picked Illinois, he would still be showered with love and be labeled an "illini guy" no matter what the communication is with the staff right now. Nunn was an "illini guy," as was Cliff had he committed to Illinois.

Goodwin is still the man of character, the tireless leader, the glue guy, the endless worker, the player all his teammates respect, etc. no matter where he ends up. That is simply recruiting.

It's his decision and his life... he is free to do what he wants. Best of luck... wish he could have been an Illini!!!

Sure it is.

Speaking of salty . . .

Not salty. Like I said not at a position of need but would have been a great addition because of his will to win/bully with a ball mentality. That being said this is obviously a terrible decision he is making. No one can objectively claim it is anything else. SLU is not a top half team in a subpar conference. The only way he is likely to be in the tourney is to win the conference tourney which is a crapshoot for even very good teams. His only real exposure will come if they make the NCAA tournament. For someone with aspirations sounds like a problem to me. Choosing Illinois guarantees him an overseas career. SLU does not but clearly he is banking on being a Lillard or Curry or 1 in 10000 players that makes it to the tourney from a smaller school and makes a name for himself there. That is just as unlikely as him transforming into a PG.

From his POV this is obviously not true. He has what to him are very good reasons for picking SLU.

Sorry, the notion that the NBA will only find guys that make the NCAA tournament is an outright fallacy. If a kid has game, he will show up on NBA scouts' radar.

Sure it is.
Agree with this. I don't think it's his decision. I think grown men are trying to benefit from him. That said, what I think doesn't matter. Let's just focus on the studly class being assembled.

He's an adult. The decision and repercussions are all his.

Results have been piss poor, but we still play in a P5 conference, on ESPN at least twice a year, and get top 100 players every year.

Great rebuttal!!! A lot of these mid majors wouldn't win 12 games with the schedule/competition that we play.

They have Pickett at 6-3 I think he is closer to 6-6 then 6-3:confused:

He and Malcolm are very close to the same height, which is 6’6”. The recruiting sites just haven't updated their info in a while.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where we'd get a player who didn't want to be here....

Translation: I like to follow recruiting because I think it's fun but I don't invest anything in recruits until they're here ("Man, getting out the cup. We got owned." etc, etc)

If someone commits then great! Welcome!

If not, next recruit up!

that being said I wish that just one time we would be the program hiring an AAU coach or whatever to get a much-needed recruit. seems like every big guy we lose was due to this kind of one-upping. need to get with the program and do whatever it takes within the rules

Look he made his decision let him go. I would have liked him to come to Illinois but a borderline top 50 player will not break the program. I admire his game and believe he will be a good college player but the level of anxiety from some posters would suggest that he is a top 10 sure fire NBA player.

We have a good class and it isn't done yet. Let's focus on who we still can get. We still are in play for some quality players.

His reasons for choosing SLU are his business. it is his choice and I wish him well.

I just cannot imagine leveraging a kid and steering him in a certain direction to benefit myself. I know that these are highly desirable jobs that probably pay low to mid six figures we are talking about, but it still makes my skin crawl. Not saying it happened in this case, but it seems to happen quite a bit. I think it's disgusting.

The national exposure won't be the same, but NBA scouts find talent regardless of location (not that I think he's a pro). He'll also have the responsibility to shoulder more of the load for a rebuilding team like SLU.

Great campus, nice new arena, knowledgeable (while small) fan base, and the opportunity to play for you city. Can't fault him for wanting to make his own splash. Good luck to the kid.

He is a kid making a mistake. We all have. Does not change the fact that an objective informed rational person would not make that choice.

More Illini fans will now forget Jordan Goodwin than SLU fans will ever know him.

Guys, we have a great class coming in already, be excited about that rather than get upset about a missed recruit. Every year we are going to miss on wayyyyy more recruits than the ones we actually get to come here. We have a great class coming in, hopefully we close it out with one of the remaining targets.
