Kiir! (I hope.)

I think it'll be tough to get Kiir. His coach Loren Jackson is a long time CPL basketball coach and not one of his former players ever winded up at Illinois. He's also under contract with Adidas and his players have typically attended Adidas schools.

Eastern, too. With others slow playing Smith and Eastern, Groce might be able to sell them on being a part of a great class.

I wonder if Frazier has any connections with Kiir or Uyaelunmo? I'm guessing no with Kiir because he hasn't been there too long.

Rumblings of Eastern and Missouri.

He would be better off at one the top tier mid majors (Wichita St, Creighton, Butler) than Missouri. I think with the Frazier commitment, that squeezes out any chance of Eastern if there was one. Smith is my last chance Illinois player, I think the last two schollys are out of state.

So it looks like we'll have a lively competition at PG in a couple seasons. We've got DaMonte, Frazier, and TeJon all in the span of 2 classes.

Any thoughts?

Not nearly as painful as it has been lately, looking forward to our future.

They will all be able to play together at the same time if earned. Also, injuries, etc happen. You must have a backup plan at this level. I love each of these guys...

Love that these guys will be pushing each other in practices a year from now. Plus, as Combes points out, we'll have multiple guys with handles that can start the offense; got a feeling there's a much better chance of uptempo offense coming down the pike soon, the way Groce purportedly likes to roll.

Sad part is that grown men are benefiting from kids. Would be much better if kids just received pay from NCAA...

Free tuition, fees, room and board is great payment when you compare it with other students.

I remember when Groce took the job he said he liked having two PG,s on the floor at the same time. Maybe we will see that down the road.

Why not shoot for Victor U? Is Kiir more of a defensive prospect like Egwu was? I don't see that Kiir is that highly rated per 247sports.com. Kiir is a 3-star and Victor U is a 4-star and top 105 spect and is a 7 footer. He would be a true center, Tilmon could play the 4.

This will force DaMonte to compete. Maybe it'll put a fire under him. You gotta think he has a lot to live up to and one wonders whether he will sink(Crandall Head) or swim? He is the ultimate risk/reward recruit in this class. I could see him becoming great but I could also see him riding the bench and getting disgruntled to the point where he eventually transfers. It all depends on his disposition and what he makes of himself.

I think you try to get both or any combo of 2 pf/c type guys to go along with Tilmon can never have to many good bigs

Kiir seems to have flown under the radar. Go watch his highlights. Plus, he was being recruited by Louisville until they got Malik. And it's not that we aren't going after U. It's just that Kiir seems more likely to commit because we are only going up against one school (NC State), assuming Louisville stopped recruiting him.

Guess what? We're actually recruiting both and some other big men as well. You don't just go after 1 kid to fill a spot, several will be offered at each position you're recruiting for.

Yeah, there's lots of risks being a freshman with tremendous weight on your shoulders to try and succeed as soon as possible. There will definitely be a few good men that will have to ride the end of the bench, will have to wait their turn, and will have to keep a good attitude at the same time.

I finally feel like we are on the way back up. In my 15-20 years following the beloved, we go as our recruiting goes. If we have poor recruiting years, we have no shot. We haven't had a coach that can consistently turn rags to riches.

With great recruits, sometimes we don't perform to our [lofty] expectations, but at least we have a shot. Sometimes, we achieve great things.

I feel with the "highly ranked" group we have now in Black, JCL, DJW (as well as the under the radar guys like Finke, AJ, Tejon, and Kipper) we have a great core of players for the future. Add in The 2017 class and we have the roster to consistently make tournaments again.

And that should be the bottom rung of the ladder each year. We are there. We have the talent to win games, and that feels pretty darn good.

So, I'd say we're hoping to finish the class with one from each:

Category A - Kiir, Uyaelunmo, Epperson, Wilkes
Category B - Scruggs, Eastern, Justin Smith, Kigab, Wilkes (yes, listed twice)

I'm sure we'd take two from 'A' or two from 'B' if it felt like the right fit. No matter what, if we land any one of the kids we're still in on--much less any two of them--this class is a monster success. (Obviously, even if we don't get anyone else it's still a step forward.)

My ideal scenario is Scruggs and Wilkes, but realistically I would LOVE Smith plus either of the Florida bigs. Maybe the least exciting finish would be Kigab and Epperson, and even that would be freaking awesome.

No kidding! We'd be delighted to get either one. But obviously until one commits, you have to recruit both (as well as Epperson or any other PF/C). You never want to be recruiting just one player for one spot.

I'm really pumped for Frazier. I think he can run the offense the way Groce has envisioned. You add in Lucas and Da'Monte and then we have options in the backcourt.

Also, Frazier seems like a solid person. He had multiple conversations/posts on Twitter including those with Illini commits and he seemed very polite. Getting a good man to match the talent cannot be understated.
