Thanks Combes..Ive only seen videos and was happy when he committed. Didn't he average about 24-25 per game for a pretty good team in one of the toughest conferneces in the state? Sounds to me like he can fill it up pretty good. Maybe redshirt if his defense is poor but that's it.

23.4ppg shooting 55% from the floor. Pickett is super efficient. A year under Fletcher would ensure he'd be plenty strong and athletic to compete in the BIG10. Not a player to sleep on or shew off to the 5th year prep route.

Are we seriously discussing scholarship problems when there are 6 scholarships available for this class. Not only that but only 3 scholarships are spoken for at this time. There are still 3 scholarships to give, I think that is more than enough for this class without insulting a fine young player who has committed to playing for the orange and blue. Pickett seams to be a kid who will make us proud that he is associated with this university. We should be doing everything we can to make him and his fellow recruits feel welcome in the Illini family.

But how are Brunson and Evans going to play together?

Agree, very insulting! I also doubt Groce plays that game and I don't believe we are in the position to use another player just as bait, especially PG.

I agree that this is very insulting to Pickett but I don't think Jaylon was affered a scholarship in merit alone.

Craziness! Pickett will be a nice player with his length and scoring ability. Welcome the kids that want to come here. Dayum!

Talen Horton-Tucker, Simeon and Fire 16u. Says he wants to visit Illinois. Any other year but '18 I think we'd be very interested. Kid is a bull. But for that year we've probably got bigger hopes. - (and limited scholarships.)

I'm guessing the Derek Culver train has derailed for quite some time now?

VICTOR BAILEY SHOWS A MEAN SIDE

Athleticism has never been an issue, or a lack thereof, for Victor Bailey. The 6-foot-4 lefty guard is as bouncy as they come at the basket where he concocts a lethal first step and improving toughness in getting to the rack and then attempting high flying dunks within the bigger bodies. On Thursday, the RM5 product tried to do just that before he was blindsided by an opposing big man that led to some ruffled feathers and a flagrant foul. It was Bailey’s response that impressed the most.

Instead of sulking and looking to figure out what exactly his opponent was trying to do, all Bailey did was get back up, make his foul shots, and then look to pulverize his opponents on the scoreboard. The southpaw has a killer two-dribble pull-up and improved ball skills when placed on the ball. Due to his size, quickness, and added consistency with his jumper, Bailey is a major matchup issue for any type of guard that he has to face.

An intellectual kid off the floor, Bailey has his fair share of schools tracking him. “Right now I would say I talk a lot to Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tulsa, Arkansas, Illinois, and Missouri,” Bailey told HoopSeen. “I have taken unofficial visits to A&M, Tulsa, and OK State.”

Victor Bailey has been nothing but superb today. Playing with a purpose. Major athlete. Finished, 15 foot pull ups, play making a tad

He is an extraordinarily nice kid. Was very struck by how down to earth he is. Wherever he ends up he will have a fan in me.

Gray shows Draymond-esque traits

Raiquan Gray has emerged as priority prospect for high-major programs all over the country this travel season with the Florida Vipers.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pound standout looks the part of a power forward with his size, but his versatility allows him to really play all over the court, similar to Warriors' star Draymond Green. Gray has a smooth jump shot and can put the ball on the floor and make plays for others. If he draws a smaller defender, he’s comfortable playing on the block with his back to the basket too.

Gray rattled off a list that includes Pittsburgh, Baylor, West Virginia, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Memphis, Maryland, SMU, UConn and Texas. He’s already taken two visits and hopes to take two more in the near future as he moves closer to a decision.

“I took an official visit to Baylor and an unofficial visit to Ole Miss already,” Gray said. “I plan on visiting Florida State and Memphis soon, probably in the next month or so.”

I realize I'm not the only one saying this, but...

Just because Illinois gets one 5-star and there are rumors that the top player in IL is also going to commit doesn't mean we are somehow in a position to pick and choose and treat the kids with whom the coaches have developed relationships poorly.

Frazier is a PG who is hitting his stride at the right time. We DON'T pass on him if he wants to come.

Pickett is a talented scorer who committed to Illinois when Illinois was about as attractive as a port-a-potty. You don't insult him just because you think the flashy recruits *might* commit instead.

I think Pickett's going to be awesome after a year under Fletch and once he learns some defense. Defense can be taught but not so much being a natural scorer, and that's exactly what Pickett is.
