This is huge. It is sort of a departure from the Frazier & Scout love affair. Now if Rivals will concur too.:)

Any chance we see a Scruggs visit before Frazier takes his?

Speaking of Scruggs, just as I "jump" off the Scruggs train, it's announced that Groce is at his UAA game tonight. Maybe I'm gun shy after my Simpson love affair.:)

I love these guys that just tweet Piper or the recruit directly and ask a question.:)

The Justin Smith recruitment has been interesting. Sounded like he was very interested at first, and then couple months later no interest at all and now maybe back to interested?? I usually have a good idea or good guess where guys will go...Smith....no clue. Anyone with info on him??

In May, the word from his 'camp' was essentially: Why would Justin or anyone consider UI? What's UI got going for it?

This summer, that has changed. There is recruiting momentum and Tilmon. My guess is that there's an interest in being part of a 'super class' of Illinois guys.

If he's still uncommitted after his scUM visit, I should hear more in a few weeks as the school year starts up.

Scruggs is really unlikely. Assuming Frazier is ready to commit during or shortly after his OV (which I believe), Scruggs has to schedule an OV before Frazier's. Then he has to be willing to pull the trigger. This, without taking other visits. Not too likely.

I'm curious why you think this is huge? Sure, this makes our class look better and I know the recruits appreciate the rankings, but I think the consensus here is that we would have been happy with his commitment even if he was outside the top 100.

I guess it just means we arent all being homers and complaining about how our guys are just underrated and are all diamonds in the rough. Most actually correctly backed Groce's evaluation of the talent.

The kid is stepping up and is having a strong finish to his summer. The questions and concerns about whatever was going on in Spring when he was not playing and then quit his team, and the lack of very much other high D1 interest seem to be being answered.
Good for him, and glad we could be getting a kid that appears that he can contribute at this level.

And yeah, rankings do matter as they are derived from how well you do versus others you will play against at the next level.
I am glad he looks to be rising.
Not interested in taking a flyer on kids at this point.
We need talent.

Perception my man... If Damonte can claw to the Top 100 and Frazier joins the Top 100 you could be looking at a class with 1 Top 30, 1 Top 50, 2 Top 100 and a prospect no one has really seen in Pickett. The perception of that class is better than 3 sub 100 and 2 solid recruits as some on this board would say. Does that change the player(s) the team is getting... of course not but perception is reality.

Switching gears, EJ Liddell looks pretty darn good. Being that he's a Belleville kid, we should have an excellent shot. That we're in very early is another plus. 6' 6" 225 as a frosh, should hit 6' 8" easily. Any first hand reports will be appreciated.

I guess it is just a matter of trust. Some posters ignored the low ranking and trusted that Groce knew what he was doing. I'm pretty sure he understands we need talent to keep his job.

Even if he doesn't add another inch or two to reach that magical 6'8" mark, a strong, hard-nosed 6'6" PF like him can still have a tremendous amount of success and impact at the college level.

Without a doubt. Just want some intel on the kid, as it appears very likely he'll be a Plan A target. Love that he averaged over 18 per game as a frosh. He has real good mass for a 15 yo.

Probably don't have to wonder too long how interested Smith is in Illinois. Sounds like he will list a top 10 anyway.

Yeah,we probably make the top 10, but unfortunately I don't see a scholarship open if we take Goodwin, Frazier and a Big(Kiir, Epperson, Uyaelunmo or John). ISame probably holds true for Eastern, too.
No ships for 2 in state top 75 players.:frustrated:

It isn't like they never had the opportunity to jump onboard.

Haha, I forgot all ships are first come first serve and all are commitable. :)

Eastern's was 100% committable. You also have to think if Pickett's was so was Smith's as that really is the ship in question because you don't pass on a legacy with potential or JGood for either of those two and Frazier plays the most valuable position.

A shame, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Credit to Pickett for committing early.
